In both directions on the A420 Swindon to Oxford, there is a small roundabout with a dual carriagway on the approach to and from it then it merges in to a single carriagway.
Be careful on it,as all car drivers will try and pass any size truck when on it and there is not much room.
They are idiots.
As the unit and trailer swing out, they suddenly look very stupid for saving seconds on a journey.
They have to get passed whatever the cost of smashing up their flash cars.Educated fools with no sense of how much room we need.
One day i will bash one.
Easy, don’t give them the room!
I thought Toby was in Turkey or have i missed something.
Should change the title to “idiots on every roundabout”
As weeto says, just don’t give them the room to cut you up
I just slow down & stay in the inside lane, then watch all the drama unfold as they run out of road, trying to push in front. (Especially heading east towards Oxford where it goes into one lane over about 50 yards) LOL !
One day i will bash one…very professional comment toby.
You seem to forget toby that not all car drivers have the knowledge and courtesy of the superior truck driver with a bad attitude.
I’m doing a couple of loads of muck into Tubney Wood quarry today, and when heading West, I move into the right hand land before the roundabout so I’m not risking squashing anyone as I immediately start moving to the right as I exit the roundabout (to take the Appleton turn).
It is a strange roundabout, it seems like when the road was dualled, the roundabout was untouched by the builders. Don’t worry Toby, the ones coming from the A338 have just been to the ■■■ Hole Farm at Frilford Heath (aka Frilford Heath Golf Club).
On this debate, I am split whether to agree with Toby or with Toby… definitely agree with Toby on this one
I get offered coffee beans from that Gareth Hunt tv advert.
What Weeto says dont give them chance,
The problem with some roundabouts in this country is the design! What I mean is you say block then off, but some roundabout fan out on approach, normally with a left filers! For example if you take lane 2&3 to go straight on, you will often find a car in 1&2 trying to go straight on! And in some case with a que up the roundabout your have a car in lane 3& half!
The worst layout that come to mind is the A41 out of Aylesbury, Bicester Road, two small roundabout which are difficult to block people off!
Any of you true professionals remember what you were taught to do when you were learning?
Can you remember what you would have done on your driving test?
Probably the correct thing but who cares now eh…lets just make our reputation worse than it is!

I was taught to drive defensively coming upto roundabouts and certain junctions, using the size of the vehicle to my advantage, to get good positioning so I would be able to make the manoveure in a safe manner even taking up 2 lanes at roundabouts so cars wouldn’t come up the inside.

Quite right Steve just a pity some drivers don’t seem to know when to block lanes and when not to.
It really annoys me when they take up 2 lanes when there is no need.
Position on approach is very important something else some seem to forget or ignore.
Talking about roundabout and junction in general.
-
Think most drivers know not to give them the space only to take it away later around the junction. But car driver still try to push past!
-
If your not familiar with a certain road you mite position the truck “wide” (extra room) because you don’t know whats around the corner?
-
Another example of poor layout is the M6/M1 junction (Catthorpe Interchange). From M6 to A14 using left hand lane where the right lane merges into 1, you allow room from the vehicle in-front so some can filter in. But sometimes they see the lorry and they all try to shoot into a disappearing gap.
The amount of car wing mirrors ive knocked to idiots trying to save a few seconds, on roundabouts its been loads over the years, i just keep on going ■■■■ em,
On The Run, the A41 Aylesbury Roundabouts you were on about, Rabans’ Lane, near the retail parks? Use any lane positioning you like there, the Asian women being taught by their husbands in Nissan Primeras do.

That’s it foot down and hope for the best and look puzzled when it all go wrong.

Dont get us started on Asian Women being ‘Taught’ by their Asian husbands!
that needs a thread on its own !!! Lol.
The got to get past brigade at any cost car drivers.
