ICE ROAD TRUCKERS

i would love to spend a night out tramping with her  :

Marks out of 10? Iā€™d have to give her one.

Love the bit where Darrell called Porkchop, ā€œChicken strip, or whatever he calls himself this week.ā€

Ken.

i watch it from time to time but this austin wheeler,is he old enough to drive these trucks,he only looks about 14 yrs old

I think he does a good job, anyone that can put on snow chains has my vote.

agreed, but he must have to show i d when he goes for a drink

When I started a few years ago in Swiss 18yr old kids were driving 140 etc.wagon + drags all over Europe & mainly they did a good job. Youngsters were driving 3 axle double decker Setras,no probs

All these made for TV Documentaries, such as IRT are sensationalized by the program makers. As has been said they keep showing the same scenes over again. They build it up then have a commercial break for the adverts, and usually everything is OK.

Id throw her round like a old tracksuit top ,me nads would be like sherbet pips

Perfect tv ,you can have a snooze at the wheel and know when you wake up everything will be ok.

They are all interesting characters to me, there was this guy called Drew in one of the 1st series who used to crack me up, moaned & cursed so much it reminded me of British driversā€¦

 I defy any English-speaking foreigner to make sense of those words. God, I love our unique, inimitable language!!

I like Lisa, and not just for her physical attributes, sheā€™s a ā– ā– ā– ā–  good driver. Remember when they were in India? She was the only driver who stayed the course.
Alex of course is equally high in my estimation. Hugh has a good ā€˜can-doā€™ attitude, but does too much damage acheiving it. If most of us behaved in that manner we would be spending a great deal of time on the carpet, getting disciplinaries.
That Pork-Chop feller, I wouldnā€™t let him drive my skates.

the deer mouse herta virus thing that Rick caught, caused by an infestation in his cab,i think id know that mice were running around the cab when was trying to sleep judging the amount of droppings underneath his mattress, and Darrell always seems to shout even when hes talking, him and porkchop seem to be a comedy double act

These are old repeats the one about Rick being ill was on History Chanel 3-4yrs ago. Eddie.

One thing does stick out on that program, the fact that unlike UK truckers they donā€™t get stuck the second there is a bit of snow or ice aboutā€¦ :sunglasses:

Does anyone think it is just the winter tyres, or the fact the ice road drivers that can plan more than 20ft in front of their windscreens. :open_mouth: :stuck_out_tongue:

Alex is the real deal ,living up in yellowknife and doing the job for 27yrs,Hugh has done it all up the ice road ,Rick works for hugh back in BC. at hughs excavating company.
The one i felt sorry for was Art that came to work for hugh in MB,made him look like a real swamp donkeyā€¦the truth was that he had done 15yrs on the ice up to the mines, and if you were as bad as he was made to look on the show he would not have been on the mine run for 15yrs.
A friend met Alex in his hotel and told me he was the same in ā€œreal lifeā€ as he was shown in the show, a real class act.
I recon the show/series just filmed is the last as hugh is suing the production company after his accident :open_mouth: :open_mouth: .
ITS a show ,if it showed the boredom of driving at 15mph all day no bugger would watch.
watched a few episodes that were in MB to spot guys that i work wae in the summerā€¦lolā€¦

Iā€™d like to see them giving it a try running up to hammerfest or somewhere in january, itā€™s a little more complicated when the road youā€™re driving on isnā€™t 20m wide and you see a change in elevation more than twice a day.

Winter tires   , nice idea mate . The proper ice road guys have to plan , you get stranded up there at minus god knows what temperatures it really can be a very dangerous situation in a very short period of time .
One of our lads had a fuel return issue a few weeks back which shut the truck down , obviously no bunk heater either , minus 14C with winchill of minus 26. Wasnā€™t too long before he went into panic mode and was calling every number on his phone , he was happy to be rescued in less than 2 hours .

ICE ROAD TRUCKERS FANSā€¦ bored sat in an RDC/on a night out with an internet connection?

Hi all. This winter iā€™ve done about 12 trips from here [GƃĀ¤llivare]up to Narvik,Tromso,Hammerfest and Kirkeness and 3 times the border road has been closed for 1-2 Days due to storms.Even 44t trucks were getting blown off the road in the Narvik\Lofoten area and between Kiruna and Abisko fully loaded containers were blown off a train causing the rail line to be closed for about 5 Days. One trip we had to divert over 500kms to another border just due to the severity of weather.Having driven in Canada i still say these roads are tougher in winter conditions.

I was wondering how a Europena truck would cope on the ice roads, the only diffenece I can see is the ones they use are 6 x 4 and manual gears
