Oh yes I gave it a go & it did’nt work. At least I’ve tried one & for sure I would’nt buy one. Talking to the workshop here yesterday it looks like the next batch of new trucks may well be manual due to downtime & a number of failures in the last few weeks. I don’t know if a manual is cheaper here all I know is in the time I’ve been here 3 i-shifts boxes have been replaced but no Fullers have failed. Nuff said really…
fly sheet:
I’ve given the I-shift 15,000 miles of chances over the last few weeks & I’m still not keen.Luckily I work for decent people who have let Me swap into a manual, its about 10 months older & not as shiny but that suits Me too.
Anyway off I go with My Fuller & its 13 gears & bollox to Volvos I-shift its pants.
And they all lived happily ever after
So after all that you’ve proved most of what I’ve said in that it should all be a matter of choice not adapt and for once nmm etc have to admit defeat and admit that they were wrong.
I won’t hold my breath waiting though.
No matter what we think we only drive what the boss choses to buy.
Anyway he ain’t even got an 18 speed Carryfast a poxy 13 speed and a Volvo not a proper yank tank what kind of firm is that.
kr79,
You’ve said it! When we are in a position to buy the truck we drive we can state what we want. If we’re not the choice we’ve got is whether we work for that firm or not. And to me ,money comes before gearboxes, it’s hard work carving a Fuller up for Sunday lunch.
Fly sheet tried an auto , didn,t like it ,but that is not to say that they don’t have a place in today’s transport scene. If you ,C/F want bang away on a Fuller non stop , feel free ,but some of us drive what we are given and get on with it! And I have yet to hear of somebody having less money to take home because they drive an auto.
Cheers, Bassman

That’s what I meant about he proved ‘most’ of what I’ve said not all of it.But that Scania 620 or 730 V8 powered KW with an 18 speed in it which would be my choice wouldn’t be a totally ‘yank tank’ either.Although I’d bet the boss would be happy with the resale value whe he came to flog it.
But seriously if it wasn’t for driver preference and demands over the years the industry would probably still be stuck years behind in truck development.
Or lumbered with pointless over complicated technology on the basis of it wasn’t broke but they decided to waste money by trying to fix it anyway.
Christ is this load of old balls still rumbling on?! Haven’t you old chaps anything better to do…hang on, no need to answer that.

Shocking crew I’m on for, 13 are enough kr79 believe Me its ample, as for not being a Yank well such is life a lot less chrome to go dull in My case, I’d lay money it was a Yank that mashed My Volvo up on Monday, probably with west coast mirrors too…I’m looking forward to seeing You in Your Daf soon btw
Bloody ell John milliseconds to get rid of him faster than your I shift can move up a notch.

I pop into this forum every now and again as I like looking at some of the old pics and I was fairly shocked to find this topic in the top half of the first page still.
Well I’m pleased, plenty of input of plenty of drivers, many opinions all of which are valid in there own right including Carryfast.
I’ve put plenty of pictures on here over the years, your more than welcome to put them in your scrapbook in “Manuals Only” section.
