I-Shift vs manual gearboxes

The last I-shift I drove when going up long steep inclines would get down to 4th or 5th then couldn’t make its mind up what to do and then often would either stall or give up altogether and let you roll back with full weight on. This was after a long run up to said inclines too. Also, when full weight again even crawling along and you had to make a sharp turn, therefore creating much drag pretty suddenly, it would also either give up or stall. Bloody auto rubbish.

You’re not using it correctly…There is the manual option that you can flick into, also the hill start thingy that stops you from rolling back.
Next time you use one Dafmad try using the manual bit if you think it won’t cope, I do now and again especially around Cinderford!!!
First time I used a Auto box was the early 80s, funnily enough in a Daf, they have come on in leaps and bounds since then, I would be really miffed if I had to change gear again

I used manual, power and auto all just as bad - crap. Admittedly I do believe their was something wrong with it.

BTW its an auto that means its automatic that means …

If you hit a steep hill with I-Shift drop the lever into crawler its the L on the lever as soon as the engine revs drop enough the box will drop down into 4TH and stay there. If the hill isnt that steep use manual and judge it for yourself. My oldest volvo is a 52 plate with I-Shift and it has never had a problem

just doing a bit of thinking - anyone got any experiences using I-Shift

which would you have if you were thinking about a new truck ?

:open_mouth: I’m not sure about gearboxes, but wouldn’t you buy one that has a piston engine.■■

I can only agree with Wheel Nut. I operate a mixed fleet of i-shift FH480 Globe XL’s, automatic 440 XXL MAN’s and opticruise Scania’s and, whilst the cabs are slightly more roomy in the MAN’s, the MPG, reliability, driver feedback and dealer support with the Volvo’s is far superior to the others. If it was up to me (unfortunately it isn’t) I would change my whole fleet to Volvo tomorrow and be absolutely sure that I had made the right decision.

Oh Yes!! :grimacing:
Mrs Gorilla got a piston engine when she went shopping, but don’t forget to feed the birds.

 BTW, is a Renault a crunchy frog by a different name??

Denis F:
I guess I’ll be driving a Renault next year

If you opt for a Premium, will it be of the semi-annual kind.?
