I’m curious to know

Despite a scattering of firms on agency, I’ve primarily worked for 4 companies in my 20 year driving career.

My favourite was probably my first at Securicor Omega. I drove vans and 7.5t for the first couple of years, and when I started I drove a small hire Transit on ‘clearup’. That meant taking about 15-20 drops for local but remote villages that regular drivers chose to leave behind (for the clearup driver). It’d be a 9 hour day, and was the easiest, most enjoyable work I ever had. It was always peaceful, and I’d often chat on the doorstep with people. This was 2001 though. No snatching 10 seconds to pee in a bottle in those days, nor micro management or precisely timed deliveries. After that I got my HGV licence and it’s been purgatory ever since

In 40 yrs driving , it has to be in Canada 5minutes from my door ,home every night Monday - Friday . 15 loads a week hauling stone and sand for the local concrete company twas usually dead mans shoes but I got in by recommendation, fantastic.hr paid job with ot after 42hrs started on a mixer got my papers (hrs done on job) then after that in the yrs following I was near my own boss starting times , serviced own vehicle etc never saw any bosses unless problems 70hr week , great social life after work. On fridays , Xmas parties , etc no backstabbing among staff. Best 6 yrs ever until company family changes led to job disappearing .
