I just dont get it....

The reason may be that you may think the road is flat when in actual fact it’s not. When I’m fully loaded to anything over 40t there are times when I can see my speedo creep up to 57 and 58 whilst driving on what looks like a perfectly flat road. A quick glance at the fuel consumption computer will confirm if I am running on or not.

Check your MPG display to see if it’s as high as say 20 or 30 mpg. That’ll tell you in you’re on a slight downhill. The heavier artics will speed up faster than a rigid

i was getting 354.5 mpg last night…lol

I still think the satnavs are out, i don’t see all these trucks suddenly now doing over 56mph, things seem to be getting stricter not more lax.

My mate has a ex police motorbike, maybe i’ll try a SatNav with its speedo since its calibrated correctly.

You will find that GPS technology is far more accurate than a (ex) police ‘calibrated’ speedo… :unamused: :unamused:

Its why planes, boats etc use it…

Even truck speedos that are 'supposed to be calibrated are out compared to GPS, plus also tyre wear plays a part in a speedo reading, whereas is does not affect a GPS…

How many more times is this subject going to be thrashed■■? :unamused: :unamused:

i never mentioned sat navs in my OP regarding how accurate they are, that was never my argument. i was on about how some trucks seem capable of more than just 1mph faster than me when my speedo and digi tacho says 56mph, as if it was 1 mph diff they would take couple of mins to pass me if i did not back off but these trucks steam past clearly doing closer to 60mph and just wondered how they do it legally :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

i’m well aware of that, hence my disclaimer at the top. :grimacing:

Yeah really so a £100 SatNav out of Halfords is the same type of equipment used on airplanes and boats at sea ?

My TomTom One showed most trucks i used sitting at 54mph, and fast ones saying they were doing 56mph. Another guy from our company got different speeds.

The actual unit and software deals with the calculations to determine speed, which can be wrong, several posts on here before have mentioned satnavs not being that accurate as everyone believes, and yeah i would rather take the word of a calibrated ex-cop motorcycle over most other things. The tyres on motorbikes are nowhere near the size of truck tyres, so worn tyres are not going to effect the speed reading the same way worn tyres on a truck will.

Seen the news articles about companies getting prohibtions and into trouble for trucks doing 58mph when stoped by VOSA, most people who calibrated tachographs and limiters over here are not going to mess about increasing it they get hammered if its found out.

Thats why i,m skeptical that one year later on suddenly loads of trucks are now going over 56mph when last year they werent. Even with worn tyres maybe a 1mph difference prob why most are calibrated to bellow 56mph anyways, usually 54-55mph
