Same as the others for me Conor.
Good luck chap. There is more to life than driving a lorry.

Good luck in your new (hopefully permanent) career move…
Other drivers should stop kidding themselves and realise there is another career waiting for them if they removed the
blinkers and rose tinted glasses… you did and moved on.
A driving job is not the job it used to be, and you have found out that even in the alleged higher echelons known as HJ it is not a great job,
it just pays a little better than some, but you get still get messed about, shifts swapped, Adams army, etc etc.
Best wishes Conor.
20+ answers from experienced drivers (including me) to a post where another experienced driver is jacking in, hopefully for something better, and not one of those posts asking why, and/or telling him he is making a bad move or a mistake.
That speaks for it’s self, and illustrates a sad indictment to the modern truck driving job as it is today,
do you not agree?
Conor:
Just hung up my keys again yesterday, fed up with it all.
Good luck with the new career change Conor. I hope it works out for you mate!
I’m thinking of picking my keys up again… I had 20+ years on HGV’s but I’ve been driving a van for
the last 6 years and only got around to doing my CPC last April.
If only I could find a reasonably normal HGV 1 job Mon - Fri, where I’m home every night, perhaps
a few drops anywhere that gets me back for the day!
Wishful thinking, eh? Certainly not interested in nights away, night trunking, tramping or all that crap
again and tbh all the drivers hours, WTD rules and regulations slightly puts me off coming back!
Some people may say I should stick with my easy job driving a VW Crafter LWB, mostly empty, with just
a few deliveries/collections. NO tachos or WTD to worry about. Have a break when I want, keep driving
if I prefer! Decisions decisions!! Lol

I agree. I used to love the job, just couldn’t wait for the phone call telling me where I was going next, nowadays I do as little as possible and count down every day until I can pack the job in for the next few months.

Totally agree mate… it speaks volumes, and here’s me thinking of coming back into
the industry after a 6 year break, currently driving a van around, home EVERY night!
Easy life but crap money!
Am I making the right choice? Lol

Every time. I’m in a little 2.8t Vito at the minute.Same money as my C2 job with 18hrs a week less, and not having to worry about tacho/height/length/width/weight restrictions or if i’ll fit into the job when I get there. As some of us say on here, drive the smallest thing you can for the most money .
The only thing I haven’t left behind is a 2016 Vito needs Adblu every 3000mls
Conor:
Found a job I start on Wednesday that has nothing to do with driving. 9-5, Mon to Friday with an hour for lunch. Kick in the balls with the pay because I’m going to be working 35hrs and not 55hrs but I can afford to live on it and the benefits to my life far outweigh the loss of money.
Good luck and welcome to the real work.
Im loving my 37hours a week.
Money isnt everything. Work life balance plus a very very good pension for me.

bald bloke:
Good luck Conor once you get used to the drop in pay it’ll probably be the best thing you’ve ever done and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it earlier.
2ND THAT !!!

Yes agreed, the man’s found a way out that works for him and bloody good luck to him.
It isn’t the job as such, we still go out and make deliveries in our lorries, but everything has changed around us, its not us thats changed at all we’re still the generally happy go lucky hairy arsed sods we always were (though the fine ladies who drive lorries probably don’t have hairy arse syndrome) but we’ve been driven to despair.
If it was even twenty years ago i suspect, but certainly for the ten or twenty years before that we’d have reservations for Conor’s move when the job was generally better, but now?, nah sod it mate get out while you have the chance.

Not really Rob, I’ve always been a big advocate of what suits one person down to the ground, is another persons worst nightmare. I’d never dream of questioning someone else’s career choice unless they were a very close buddy.

Can’t agree with that. I don’t have “plenty of money”, I don’t even own a house, but I have a far more enjoyable life than the average debt slave.
truckerjimbo:
NO DON`T DO IT !!!
Guessing a few people will be thinking that! Lol
It’s at tough decision for anyone to take changing career.
ATM I’ll swop anyone my current job for a winning £1M lottery ticket but I suspect no one wants it
its funny how things turn around a couple of years back connor had a dig at me for working for a guy who was 2 minutes from my house, i was on lower pay but the job and certainly the conditions of job suited me… i hope it works out though…
