How was 2010 and how does 2011 look for you?

Moose:
fly sheet
along the same lines what about having the top end set up, valves injectors and also turbo boost sensor?
had mine done a while ago it did seem to keep it on song as it still pulls well along side other 460s as stated in another post it performs better on shell derv power/mpg
just a thought moose

Top end set up done 6 weeks ago Moose, ran it solely on Shell for most of the time I’ve had it but recently changed to using my UK fuels card over the last 8 weeks its 3p a litre cheaper. I’ll be fueling up tomorrow as I’m heading south for an 8am tip in Reading so I’ll see what its done this week, its had a driver on it today so that may or may not help. The last time he drove it it got .4mpg worse than me!!!

Well ■■■■ you then ignorant ■■■■■ :unamused:

Had the turbo changed in my 4 year old motor which has made a big difference. Also had the valves and injectors re-jigged.

Still have a flat spot in the power range in ninth gear between 1,000 and 1,400 rpm and on the limiter at a hill it drops to 52mph before giving any power, i’m going to get scan-tune to reprogramme the torque curve as Scania won’t do it apparently which seems pretty strange to me although they say it’s difficult to get it right. :unamused:

Nothing to do with mpg but sometimes these specialist tuners can also improve fuel economy although be careful who you use as I’d say some of them are just selling fresh air.

Most of them can and do, SS. If you pay the bit extra for a live map on a RR then you’ll get a ‘before’ and ‘after’ print out and they will often do several runs in order to program the ECU to get the very best - safely - from your engine.

Rob K:
Well [zb] you then ignorant [zb]. :unamused:

My names John :open_mouth: Not Paul,

It has’nt been run on Bio Fuel, I dunno regarding EGR, but I’ve had that problem with my private van & just replaced it after several clean up jobs. It runs at normal on the temperature front Rob. Sorry for the misunerstanding Chap, the last thing I am is ignorant Arthur

It did 6.91 this week whoo hoo its getting good.

Rob K:
Paul, couldn’t find your original thread about your broken truck, but a random thought - have you looked to see what temp the engine is running at? It sounds like it’s over-fueling quite badly to me and this is often due a knackered thermostat that thinks the engine is colder than it actually is. Trying to remap the problem away isn’t the answer, you need to get to the source of the problem (although I realise I’m stating the obvious here :grimacing: ).

How does it pull overall? Does it feel really down on power? Not sure which truck models have EGR these days but if it does there’s a possibility it could be coked up to [zb] which prevents it from breathing properly.

The other possibility is that the previous owner tried running it on bio diesel and your injectors are gunged up to [zb], or they may just be gunged up from normal diesel if it’s spent a lot of time doing short runs/lots of idling. There’s a company that advertises on Ebay doing injector cleaning for fairly cheap monies and they have a ton of good feedback. Only trouble is that it’s only a cleaning service so you have to send/take the injectors to them on their own, rather than still attached to the truck.

There isn’t that much to diesel engines. Poor mpg usually is down to a knackered thermostat in my experience or blocked EGR. Do trucks have MAF and cam sensors on them like cars do? These are often the cause of bad mpg problems as well. If it were me I’d be looking at all those ^ in that order, leaving the injector cleaning til last if none of the other stuff fixes it.

Just reread this thread, i assumed this was for one of the other hapless o/d’s :exclamation:

:bulb:

I thought it was aimed at me Goaty but who would know?

I saw ya southbound on the A1 a week or so back it looked good, pulling an old euroliner thing.

So did I mate. I think he’s Bipolar or some such, slags you down one minute and offers advice the next.

If it was for me Rob, then appologies. As Flysheet had expanded on his fuel consumption problems on this thread, assuming his name was also Paul, I obviously didn’t reply.

If, as it now appears, you were adressing me then thank you for taking the time to tap that lot out.

Try again perhaps?

That fly sheet kid changes his name to suit. He was signing himself as Paul a few months ago, hence why my message was addressed as such. He’s now saying his name is John. :open_mouth: I give up. Anyway if he’s checked all the stuff I’ve suggested and had it on diagnostics elsewhere then it’s bolloxed and needs to go in CM. 6 mpg is BS unless he’s pulling plant up mountains all week. Isn’t gone last long as on OD with that sort of mpg unless he’s got incredibly clueless customers.

Flysheet is John, Rob. there are photos of his motors in Tangiers, and the UK with his surname on them

Paul is the other bloke from Sheffield I think

I see. I know Paul from Sheffield is called Paul because his username is… paulb ! :bulb: There is someone other OD using called Paul using non-name username.

What the ■■■■ are you going on about, I’ve never changed my name on here or off here for that matter, If you’d have addressed the post to me & not to Paul I’d have twigged & answered you as soon as I could, but as you know I’m usually out flogging my old banger up & down the road so there was a delay. Your not Pat Kennet so I’ll not be coming to you for advise on my lorry Chap. I was however appreciating the input but as your odviously completely irrational over “Your Mistake” then go & ■■■■ a tail pipe & give me a break.

Looks like I’ve got the curse of Rob K is upon me now. Maybe I’ll change my name to Paul & retire after 23 years as an owner driver :grimacing:

No not you either as I’ve known your name for a long time.

Anyway, [zb] it. He’s obviously happy to just ignore the fact his truck is [zb] and carry on flogging it to death til it gives up the ghost so “get on with it”. Like I give a [zb] anyway. You try to help people with a few suggestions but as usual it gets thrown back in your face. Ungrateful [zb]s.

for someone who claims to not give a sh one t you spend an unusual amount of time trying to convince people you are the alan sugar of trucknet. what about if you dont care just stop posting and do some people a favour and stop insulting people.

Sig’d.

go ahead, boost your ego if you want with a few words from a post.really thats all its about, your ego and how you think you know better than all the other people that are actually better placed to comment. as i said for someone who claims to not give a sh one t it seems to occupy a large part of your life, maybe you should try getting something else to fill that gap. what about going on the van drivers forum and discussing the fuel consumption of astra vans. its all too easy for you sitting at home behind the computer calling men all the swear words under the sun and questioning their intelligence but i wonder would you have had the cojones to have said anything like it to someones face if they had offered you a lift when you were on the scrounge?

What has this got to do with John’s knackered Volvo? Nothing that I can see. I offered a few suggestions, he shot me down in flames, so [zb] him. I don’t see the problem here. You got some other point to make, start your own thread.
