and 22 replies discussing the best ways to use said maps. what the hell has the world come to ffs. anyone that cant pick up a map and know exactly what it “means” and how to use it should be put out of their misery and most certainly not handed the keys to anything with an engine in it. unbelievable.
the final proof that the industry is dominated by thick c[zb]s.
I have a map here. It’s a CAA map, used for VFR flying.
Would you understand how to use that and know exactly what it means?
Nope. But I suspect there is somewhere (perhaps a forum) I could ask and receive the knowledge without being slagged off (perhaps not this forum).
Or perhaps I could ask the Johnny Know-alls on here as they were clearly born knowing everything about everything and have never asked for help in their lives, oh no wait perhaps that’s what they want us to believe.
Precisely!
Quantum mechanics is simple… If you understand it.
Or if someone who truly understands it explains it to you in a manner you can understand

I’m gonna try navigating NDB to NDB on the road … should make the new year interesting

I think Trucklulent meant this in defence of the OP to be fair.
But personally I don’t think a Civil AIr Aviation map would be much help on the road (although I could be wrong). Just because I learnt in a past life how to navigate at sea via the sun and the stars I wouldn’t bother taking a sextant with me in the cab, there’s just not enough room for a chart table!!

but if you keep it in the trailer there will be enough room to refer to it, you could even get one of thoes cleaver trailers with the sliding roof so you can see the sun!! … who am i kidding, when do we ever see the sun?

Indeed I did mean it in defence of the OP! My point was, for those too slow to see it, is that maps are easy to understand WHEN SOMEONE HAS EXPLAINED HOW THEY WORK!!
No one is born able to understand a map of any sort.
With regard to navigating from NDB to NDB, I would suggest that it would cause several problems to say the least! Not sure if you’d get far trying to do an NDB approach to an RDC either…
