Really, that’s a great bit of info mate. Taylors have got 2 places to my knowledge tho, I know the one at huthwaite as I work on that industrial estate, is that the 1 I should visit ?
No, the main base of operations at the moment is on Lowmoor Business Park, Kirkby. If you go about four or five o’clock on a Saturday afternoon, there’s a good chance the director will be there and there’s a good chance he’ll be desperate for a driver that night. You owe me a pint if I’m right.
Yes, basically you get a job by turning up somewhere just as everybody is running round like headless chickens saying “How the hell are we going to cover that load? We’re going to lose that contract if we mess up again!” and saying “Hello, I’m an HGV driver and I’m ready to start work right now”
Right, cheers for that, just waiting on the dvla putting my cards in the post and then I’m deffo gonna give that a try. And i’ll stretch to a pint if it lands me some work.
Been said before, try the bottom end of the trade ,the dirtier jobs. You might get on skips or tippers, you dont need me to tell you that the economy is zb at the moment so there wont be many vacancies. The trainer where you did your C might give you a discount for C+E.just ask nowt to lose.
Just another little hint, go onto vista print and get some cheap and chearful business cards done for a few quid, obviously have your details but also things like “Reliable HGV Drive, Short notice no problem” when you go speak to people give them a card and push the fact that your reliable and available short notice, but as others have said don’t just go once, keep going back and sticking your nose through the door, say you popped in incase they had anything they need covering.
You will get either of these responses after a while, 1, sod off we’ll call if we need anything- in which case no much hope or 2, sorry nothing at the moment but keep popping in as business is picking up.
The way i look at it is every business you go into four or five others are also going to, you want to be the one who stands out for the right reasons, its hard work but belive me it pays off in the end and if your consistent you will get something sooner rather than later.

If you’re prepared to work hard for poor money you’ll be fine…ultimately that’s what most hauliers/agencies are looking for more than anything. Otherwise, just follow the advice on this very forum. Persistence is the key…
Try looking smart - invest in proper work trousers/polo shirt etc, keep your kit clean and tidy. Have all you need with you so you are ready to go. Don’t just go to each place once…turn up regularly as this can often mean you are about when someone calls in sick…
Best of luck mate…stick at it an you will succeed!
