How safe are you

I’d expect those who watch the cameras all day to have already got the situation under control
and have a “queue ahead” or similar sign working.

Mao, you do our friends in the control room a disservice, of course they’ll have the signs lit…

On the opposite carriageway

Happens every day, at both rush hours, at the Raith interchange on the M74. And that was before the roadworks started!

Absolutely! Probably the same as every day heading north on the A1 north of Alconbury when the sign prior to Sawtry says " queue on slip road slow" 24 hours a day. I’ve never seen a sodding car go off there, much less a bloody queue! :imp:

Javiatrix:
I’d queue in the live lane, no other practical choice (an 8 mile round trip isn’t practical). Slow down nice and early, keep checking the mirrors to check the people behind are sorting themselves out, no sweat.

+1, some hazard lights to warn other trucks would be a good idea…

Tell me about it and southbound at the next junction down in the evenings :unamused:

The M8 is a planet of its own, a smaller, linear version of the M25 with fewer lanes

As someone who lives and works ‘Up North’ (Inverness is regarded as ‘South’), I only have one question: What is a ‘Motorway’?

you don’t need a motorway up there , the roads are brilliant and speed cameras are like hen’s teeth , why would you want a motorway ■■

Elgin was gridlocked the other day near the Tosco roundabout and the two pedestrian crossings about 100 yards away on either side, must have been at least 50/60 people held up for a couple of minutes !!

Excellent replies! I was trying to think of something myself!

J24 westbound at Ainley Top is always queuing in the live lane, although the lane is actually just for Hudds. Wouldn’t want to be sideswiped by anything mind you.

Happens on the M18 where it joins the A1 just past Rotherham too.

As the driver of a large vehicle there is some responsibility to protect other motorists, so as theres no hard shoulder bringing the live lane to a controlled stop would work, unless you have seen the slip road fiasco far to late to do this then just crack on or anchor up and pucker up.

Or if you have a tipper up your chuff wanting the same exit, accelerate then lurch out at the last second and watch the carnage in your nearside mirror.
I perform similar shenanigans in my car when another car is up my bum by lurching out to overtake parked cars in a sweeney-esk type manouvre or get incredibly close to cyclists then lurch out, bit of a 2 for the price of one scenario.
I also like to indicate right and turn left, other roadusers love this.

Hmmm im not very safe at all.

+1…man after my own heart… :smiling_imp:

Amateurs.Use lane 2 to the slip road then stop and wait for someone to let you in.If they won’t then just reverse in lane 2 back to the end of the queue. :smiling_imp:

Seriously no I’d prefer not to join the queue and find an alternative option if at all possible.

You shouldn’t really post ■■■■■ this this because if some of the brain dead car drivers read this they may think it is the correct course of action to take :open_mouth:

Yeah. I only have three things to say to that: Drumbeg, Achiltibuie and Durness.

To be fair, if lane 1 is at standstill it will only be a matter of 30 seconds or less until lane 2 is at standstill as well due to queue jumpers

Bluey Circles:
It depends, in a lorry I would join the queue, I would keep sat well back in the seat, possibly flash brake lights on and off and not feel entirely comfortable until a few others had joined behind.

I’m sure the highway code says to keep brake lights illuminated when stationary until another vehicle pulls up behind, even at traffic lights
