Sun glasses definitely. I use mine more in winter than I do in summer. Stuff all that squinting nonsense. Those dark amber ones that were all the rage in the 90’s were the best for winter glare but I can’t find them anymore.

Very true, yet, years ago when driving down the M1 early morning with the sun reflecting off the wet surface sunvisors were irrelevant. The glare was from below not from above. I tried everywhere to buy some sunglasses but was always told ‘why do you want sunglasses in winter?’. I was in France before I got a very good pair, which are still with me to this day, 40 odd years later.
However, for direct sunlight I can’t imagine why more manufacturers, both car and lorry, don’t follow Renault’s lead with the Magnum blinds. The best I’ve ever had.
As regards reversing, at Toray there was always one early morning run to Hyde. The sun just appeared over the top of the warehouse roof at the moment we would be reversing a wagon and drag into the darkened, and thus invisible, bay. It was made worse with the Fodens as the mirrors could only be seen through a fixed quarterlight which reflected the entire dash in the cab. I even went to the extent of buying a bit of black cloth to lay over the whole area which helped, but only a bit.
When it came to buying new motors I made sure that the FHs had no quarterlights and the windows could be dropped for a better view.
