Someone else will no doubt correct me if it’s not the case but I think, like us, you’ll just be on red as a ‘predictive score’ based on other similar size and vehicle age operator’s profile and this remains the case until you have a roadside encounter, regardless of first time MOT pass rate.Maybe take it for test and then after passing drive back slowly past your nearest checkpoint and don’t tell them exactly where you’ve just come from until they’ve finished giving it the once over just in case they find something.
Unfortunately the OCRS scoring system changed on 01/10/2012 and there isn’t a predictive score anymore and operators are no longer compared with their peers. All scores are now live, based on the last three years of data and updated every Friday. As an example an immediate prohibition for steering, brakes, suspension or tyres carries 200 point. 50 points will get you to Red. it is quite a complex scoring system but is now a purely mathematical calculation based on encounters - no more guess work.
Some operators have found they have slipped into the Red due to events from three years ago that had gone away (old system was based on 2 years). Some have also found previous ADR related offences have now hit their scores. Previous instances of drivers getting a fixed penalty have now hit their scores. I saw an operator who was Amber for maintenance and green for tacho go to Amber for manitenance and red for tacho overnight on 1st October. This red was caused by a single ADR offence (where he was proven to be innocent - by Diesel Dave) and a couple of fixed penalties for not being able to provide a print out (no spare paper!)
9 times out of 10 whether you are pulled or not will depend on the companiy’s OCRS scores. Having worked for a company at Green scores running around 70 trucks it was unusual to be stopped once a month, usually more like once every 2 or 3 months. Another company I know with far less vehicles but a lower score are stopped far more often.
This is why the OCRS system exists - to help target those that need targeting.
Sometimes Im out in the middle of night with 4 huge cable drums on the back with brand new 38 core, I always expect to be pulled and questioned but it never happens!
I was brethalysed in 1992 and got a tug because of a handheld lazer gun in 05. Not yet in a truck though.
I just tried to check my OCRS score but although I can get logged on to the VOSA self-service site it seems it isn’t on there and the only way in to OCRS I can find involved finding my Government Gateway details, which are at home…
Not sure where I would be, haven’t had any dealings with VOSA yet.
