Honestly never
Punchy Dan:
More like because it’s my lorry , and I think my work vareys more than most on here .also it’s to do with the mirror head strength , a lorry is more likely to hit either the hedge / trees or another lorry round here than perhaps any where eles in the country as iam sure windrush would agree
Aye Dan, self setting trees on the road side of the walls that the council don’t bother with. The road from Parwich lane end to Fenny Bentley is a lot better now than in ‘my day’ though, the ‘Hazzard Bend’ isn’t a hazzard any longer but there is also a lot less HGV traffic on it nowadays!
Pete.
dozy:
Honestly never
Do you mean the mirror was the only straight bit not damaged on the truck after the accident then doze ?
robroy:
Love the fact that 17 up to press have never broken a mirror.
It’s either my previous ‘‘5 minute drivers’’ theory, or they are setting off from the yard daily, point A to point B, all motorway driving.
How many of these 17 model drivers are trampers on varied work I wonder.
5 minutes? No. Not experienced either, but I’m hardly green…
Varied? Yes. Mixture of nowhere mixed with central London.
Tramping? No, but I fail to see that sleeping in a truck would make you more likely to have a mirror owie…
But I must stress I have been very lucky!
had mine partly destroyed in the roadworks at Gloucester this morning by a knobhead in a white MAN from stoke thanks for not stopping pal don’t worry it’s all on dashcam
Anyone been on the receiving end of being hit by mirrors with the metal guards always breath in when i meet them on a tight road.
lost one on the old A55 once . Late for the Hollyhead boat (as usual ) there was a section of road with a stone wall running beside it near Hollyhead. Most of the telegraph poles were behind the wall but there were 2 or 3 that were in the wall just at a s bend . As I approaced the bends I met another truck in as big a hurry as me and to try and give it some room I tried to hold over as tight to the stone wall as I could . That was one of the loudest BANGS I ever heard as the 2 mirrors and the mirror arm left the side of a DAF 85 .Had to get a callout from DAF in Dublin to meet me off the boat the next morning to get it sorted out .
several, first time was delivering beer and were on pennines, a pheasant decided to commit suicide and fly up out of the hedgrow just as i was passing, hit n/s mirror full on… and poor bugga got split wide open… not too bad for me but my drivers mate was well ■■■■■■ off as he had his window open at the time… when we got to the pub the landlord took pity and let him have a wash and gave him a promo t shirt to wear…
many a mirror lost when delivering to farms on york moors, trees, farm buildings the odd piece of farm machinery left lying about…
and last one was a few weeks ago in bradford when arla arctic decided he wanted a new mirror on his trailer… ripped mirror completely off and scrapped door and n/s step after his very poor attempt at swinging left at the left minute…
