yorkshire terrier:
My mate says he don’t know how I live on ONLY 60 hours …
He has been sucked in to the you have to max your hours every week to be able to live club…
60 is more than enough 40 hour and 20 hour overtime if you can’t live on that your screwed in my view, and I get a bit of home life too
Indeed, how do you actually live on more than 60 hours? You’ve no time to spend on living - you’re living to work rather than working to live!
It’s good that he seemed to listen to you. Let’s hipe it continues.
Something I’ve noticed in this thread from you is that it’s all your boss making you do such and such. It’s only your latest post where you mention parking up early to make sure you’re legal.
The office has one objective - to get as much work out of you the driver as possible.
You have one objective - to work safely and legally.
That’s going to mean that you end up “wasting” time off your day to park up safely and within your hours. It’s going to mean that if you say “yes” to everything that comes your way over the phone, you’ll be maxing constantly.
Work steadily, if they give you something that makes you think “ooh, that’ll be tight”, that’s when you need to tell them to give you 10mins to plan it and you’ll ring them back. Plan it, make sure you’ve got a decent buffer of time and if it’s too tight, ring back and say that you can’t do it.
If you’re firm and fair with them, accepting that in transport things can go to ■■■■ sometimes, they should adjust to how much work they can get out of you. If you and your employer can’t find the balance, you’ll be needing a new job.
DonutUK:
I wouldn’t worry about it…once we’re out of the EU all this working time limits will be abolished and employers will be happy to see you working 70 hrs every week!
Yeah only if you work for a ■■■■ company & allow them to take the ■■■■ out of you.
i think its more relevant if your a day or night man.
if your tramping, then id just work to suit the workload ive got on.
if its trip dosh, then im happier just working to suit myself and fiddle accordingly.
11 hours off would bore me senseless if i had a job to get done.
id just rather go flat to the mat,and collapse when required to suit myself, leaving the work well covered in advance, and a right good kip as and when it suits best.
my mate runs groupage local in n.i. for a fixed wage and every day he is in an hour early to make sure his trailers loaded ect,and always certainly last man back.
he has to be cracking on making the rod for his own back.18-25 drops plus collections all over the place would be his normal day.
total grief for most, but thats what suits him.he aint a jobsworth or sucker up for the company,he just likes to crack on and get on with it.
Quick update: He’s completely tried to take the ■■■■ out of me again tonight when I thought I’d be on my way home, I’ve driven back and chucked the job
I’ll give you full reasoning later or tomorrow but I couldn’t put up with it anymore. I’m off up the pub with a weight lifted off my shoulders and a smile on my face
