How is easy is your job or a job you have done

Probably Reid’s work. Usually only one or two drops then one pickup and back up the road again. And they dont turn you either

The job I do now is an absolute doddle.

Start at 18.00,unit more often than not hitched up to trailer.Take trailer from Rochdale to Dronfield,Derby’s .Drop trailer and pick another one up,drive back to Rochdale and drop trailer on bay.Hitch up to another trailer, take about an hours break [often more],and then its back over to Dronfield and same procedure as first trip.
Generally stop at Dronfield for 45 mins ,have brew and a chat with other drivers.

Drive back to Rochdale, drop trailer and go home.Official finish time 03.30,but normally done for 02.45.

Dafman, what where you thinking, giving this job up…

Easiest? Deep sea (no touch) container work out of Felixstowe. 'Nuf said.

My current job is containers too, but it’s Short Sea so there’s a small amount of self-tip and taut work, plus the odd 20ft open-sider (like doing tilts only rustier    ). Still not exactly taxing, though… :sunglasses:

The downside to container work, mind, is the hours…they tend to be long, and you soon get to understand the Split-Shift part of the tacho rules and all it’s possibilities…

Deep sea container work and Short Sea container
work not heard of them before so learned something
new today. I looked at a post on here a while back
regarding Split-Shift and it confused me  .

Easiest to date was cover for someone not turning in. Got the call at 09:30, got to the yard for 10:30 (Solihull) single run to Wolverhampton (just off the Black Country Route / Keyway Roundabout) and then back to the yard for 13:30. Truck was an old banger but no lifting as it was a tipper…

Because of the hot weather, everybody has decided to drink more beer.So spent all week in lincs,■■■■■■■ crates, throwing 22gal beer barrels about, parking yards from the cellar drops because D… H…s,cant walk 3yards to pub door .but it could have been worse,Gulp!could have been in worksop.

Throwing 22 gallon barrels about ■■

I can hardly pick up a 25 litre drum (just over 5 gallons).

When I first started at Fed Ex in 88 I did Exeter change over for Spectra car polish contract, I would start at 6.00pm and find truck all hooked up and ready to go, drive to Exeter stopping at Strensham for an hour with mates, arrive at Exeter and the shunter changed trailers as i sat in the canteen, I then ran back to Strensham for an hours sleep, into the Nuneaton hob and someguy washed the whole rig as I sat in the canteen, back to Crick, get out of the cab and leave it for someone else to unhook and fuel the thing :exclamation:
In 1988 on that job I made 385 quid a week for doing the easiest job ever.

385 quid was an oustanding wage back then.

How is easy is your job now pat

I have really easy days and really hard days :exclamation:
I do get paid every time I drop a trailer ($5.00)
Each time I swap a trailer ($10.00)
I get paid if I get in the back and assist unloading ($30 - $50 depending on the contract)
I don’t get paid if I have to sit around for up to 3 hours waiting so that ■■■■■, but it’s extreemely rare :exclamation:
The easiest contract we have is our yard to Worcester, switch trailers and back to a prison near here and drop the trailer, I have done it in 7 hours and got $150.00 for it.

United Carriers trunk was the easiest job ever thought up.

Howden to Dodge Trucks in Dunstable, swap bodies or sometimes just swap one body and a drawbar trailer. The problem was you just forgot where you where, as I could drive past all the service areas in my sleep. literally.

I did my CPC on home study when I was on this job, I could always manage 3 hours sleep or study on this run :stuck_out_tongue:

Another easy one was Howden, Walsall Wood, top up Leeds and back to Howden with a 40’

Mine ain’t too bad at all, some handballing dirty great loads of timber sometimes (usually with help) but mostly forklift/telehandler unloading. No rush or hassle though, the only big downside is trying to sheet a high load in the ‘passing’ rain.

     @ Wheelnut.
Been there, done that
Some nights I would wake up passing Watford Gap and wonder where the rest of the service areas had gone and how it took such a short time

I even do that now after a hard week, some friday mornings I am driving and realise I have missed my turn off by miles

As a point of interest, the terms refer to the difference in the length of the sea journey. Deep Sea is the maritme equivalent of long distance, whereas Short Sea only comes from/goes to Europe and Ireland. (Yes, I know Ireland is in Europe, you know what I’m getting at… :unamused: ) They also ship from different ports/ terminals.
The difference in the work from a driver’s point of view is basically because of the way the contracts tend to be written by the shipping lines - there are exceptions.

Mines a Very Tiring Job :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

8pm Start Sun - Thurs ussually entails anything from 1 hr to 2 hrs sitting in canteen for vehicle, then run to Spalding (Sometimes via Hartlepool to collect 8 Pallets)

Once I reach Spalding it’s drop trailer on Dock and then report to Chaos control to find out which trailer I’m taking back, once I’m armed with that info I can get a rough Idea of how many Hours I’m sitting around the Canteen in Spalding, Tiring very Tiring

Average shift is around 13 1\2 hrs of which 8-8 1\2 hrs are driving and 30 mins is other work :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

daxi:
I worked a 10 hour shift & drove for 2 hours.

Last monday, due to lack of work, travelled 1.6km (have tacho to prove it) then parked up for rest of shift waiting for work that never materialised

The easiest Job i did was for a Swiss Company in 1989 with a 18Year old Saurer to load in Basel 18000kg Corn, drove to a Mill and shoveled it by Hand alone from Lorry.
Was in August and had good 30 degree Celsius.
Now i do with a Night Trunck to Leicestershire.
No work, just open and close Courtain.yea, and driving.
onliest nice is the Bananasplit there.

Driving to Hertfordshire, undoing doors on box van, 2 hrs later closing doors on box van, 2hr wait for paperwork, drive to Ancona Italy, get on boat, get pleasently drunk etc on the 22hr crossing, arrive in Patras, Greece, drive to factory near Athens, arrive usually around 4-5pm in the evening, next morning undo doors on trailer, 2-3 hour tip, while i sit in the sun, get tipped, close back doors, back to Patras(3.5 hr drive) back on the evening ferry after having a walk around the town, arrive in Ancona the next afternoon, 4hr drive to Prato, park up at warehouse around 6pm, get up in the morning to undo back doors, then either back to bed or sit in the sun, close back doors usually aroun 4pm, drive up to Northumberland, undo back doors, get tipped, close back doors and home.
11 days of doing nowt apart from driving really       and opening and closing back doors a few times

Easiest job I had was

Leave Croydon to load at Hemel Hempstead

Take load from HH to Castellion (Southern Spain)

Sit around for just over a week while they unloaded trailer

Stayed in hotel paid for by customer with all meals included.

Easiest money earned was on agency Post Office ordered 6 class 1 drivers for Crawley.
We all got there then they decided they didn’t want us so we went home & got 8 hrs at double bubble

Today was my easiset yet.

Left yard at 8am with a reefer for Immingham (de-hire).

Arrive at Immingham, drop trailer, sign paperwork & arrive home at 11.45

If only it was like that every day
