Lawrence Dunbar:
Well thats the same storey that I was told, donkeys years ago by a good old mate of mine Parkey Denholm [RIP], He reckoned there was certainley a far nicer way too remove the wax, but he never got round to telling me. Happy Days EH. Larry Ps, never tried it myself.
“Parky”, what a character! I remember a few of us following him north on the A10 (long before the M11 was open)
I saw this flash of leg and long hair flying in the breeze, then Parkys brake lights came on, the “cracker” was in the cab and we were moving again in no time. A few hundred yards further on he stopped again and the “cracker” jumped out.
It was only when we stopped at Kates that the story came out, Parky had seen the legs and stopped pretty quickly, he didn,t want anyone else to score, but this time he had dropped a clanger it was a bloke out for a run that he,d picked
up !!! he must have been the origional jogger. I dont know who was the most disappointed by the encounter but we all had a good laugh about it. Parky had that cheeky smirk on his face that anyone who knew him would remember.
Ps it was this time of year so it was dark. regards Kev. Larry ive just opened that Bushmills Malt, Heaven in a glass.
Merry Xmas all.
Well Kev, I remember one night in Leeds in the 50s outside the Railaway Station he picked a female up that quick her shoes were left on the pavement, she was from Huddersfield & she told him her oy friend had let her down by not coming to pick her up, & of course Parkey being Parkey felt sorry for her, & gave her a pair of his winter socks amongst other things, he used to see her on a regular basis because he claimed he wanted is socks back, he could charm the birds out of the trees in those days, I miss him very much, as Ive said before he was my mentor in every way, Regards Larry.
Hi all,
So my father and some of his old driver mates tell me? During the 1960’s they would always try and stop in a layby near a phone box, during winter. So they tell me? They would have a cable running from the three bar electric fire in the cab powered by the light feed in the phonebox
Regards Andrew.
