Newmercman I see your point there, if I drove a truck with the space of an F12 I’d probably think twice about cooking in the cab.

Welshboyinspain, that post comes accross as a bit of an angry one! Your missing the point on cost. Its not about how much it costs, it about the quality. For that amount of money I get 3 hot meals a day, at least at this time of year, and all other bits and pieces such as snacks, I eat a lot of fruit for instance. For £10 or so a day I eat what I want, when I want and it’s great quality, probably better than most truckstops . Money is not an issue for me, thats why I shop at M&S and Waitrose. Trying to to sound like I’m not boasting, I probably get paid more than most British truck drivers doing Europe, and it seems I spend more a week eating than you do, and probably eat better. As for your other point I think I made it fairly clear where I like parking. I don’t, ever, park in routiers, restaurants, truckstops etc. I don’t like parking with other trucks and most of the time I park in small motorway rest areas. So don’t worry I won’t be depriving you of a space anytime soon.

And just for the record I’m English.

if it comes across as angry its not a personal attack but how many times on this forum do us brits whinge about places closing down then somebody like you posts about how much they spend on food in the cab when i admit you might be eating more often but i don’t see how cooking yourself is better than somebody else doing a 3 or 4 course meal with wine for 10 euro or less. i don’t just eat in routiers i do have the occasional bit of fruit or snacks as well included in the amount i take every week but the original post was about whether we treat ourselves and self cooking is not a treat.
as far as parking goes you are obviously one of the few who parks where you are not being selfish just wish the flipflop and sock brigade who cook in cab and use lidl carrier bags would follow you’re example i knew you weren’t one of them because your grammar is a heck of a lot better
one last little thing if you stop to cook a hot meal 3 times a day you must take forever to get anywhere :open_mouth:

after driving all day and spending all that time in the cab you would think it would be good to get away from the cab for at least enough time to eat a cheap meal and go to the toilet. :unamused:

I work for an Irishman so no it doesn’t!

I have been known to cook in the cab (side box normally) I have a fridge and microwave built into the cab.
I like to get out of the cab, but if I am in one country for more than a few days I like to do the odd meal of my own, we are the only people in Europe who like veg with our meals, and boiled/ mashed/ roast rather than chips when it comes to spuds.
I have even cooked in Portugal where it costs more to cook a plate of food than have a whole 3 course meal and bottle of wine in a restaurant, but I am happy to eat out most of the time.
I also carry cornflakes and brew kit that get used every day.

When I worked for Westermann there was a German driver who used to have a 3 ring burner and double oven grill in his side box, on weekends he would cater for anyone that was willing to buy him a beer, not a bad deal…He just loved cooking and drinking

Had an overnight down to Cavan crossed over from Cairnryan to Larne courtecy of P&O the meal on board was great and plenty of it, so the euros I took for grub in Eire came back with me the next day, whats more food onboard on the return journey was just as good and a different menu. My wife thought traveling all day no time to stop i’ll prepare a big meal!!! for him…that’s why i’m a fat ■■■■■■■■■■■
