Highways Agency... Is it me?

“KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING. YOU UTTER MORON” is one I’d like to see.

You may think some of the heroes would park up

Some of the “heroes” have got 25+t on and are barely twitching in the big gusts.
Why would they want to park up? Because you think it’s dangerous?

I agree that having a sign after the services is pretty daft but then again why should the HA have to tell you how to drive, be observant and basic driving standards?. Apparently Twitter had a feed about a women who drove past several services looking for one that gave double nectar points and then she ran out. Look at it like this, people are so thick that they have to be told to get fuel or there is fog or there is spray, its a sign of just how bad things have got. These people then run out of fuel on the M4 on the running hard shoulder and then have LGV drivers getting frustrated and slagging off the HA as the HA were so busy dealing with hundreds of other calls from other people who ignored signs for debris, spray and such and then have crashed or ran out of fuel. So who’s fault is it in the first place. Also don’t forget, just like clouds, fog moves so if they are set leading into fog and the fog moves, there are what appear to be pointless signs.

It has been said time and time before why Fog is set, funny how the HA get crap for trying to help yet look at the people who drive with their front fog lights on in fog but haven’t actually bothered to check that A. Both front fog lights work and B. that all the other lights on their car works in the first place? What about those that still do 80+ in lane 3 with Fog lights on in Fog, did it ever occur to them that there may be debris or a stationary car in their path that their front fog lights won’t illuminate since they only shine about a metre in front of the car, no of course, once their front fog lights are on, they are protected. What exactly goes through these peoples heads, what is their thought process?

I mean, there are signs for “Do not enter yellow box unless your exit is clear”, people not using bus lanes when they can, using them when they shouldn’t then ■■■■■■■■ when they get a well deserved ticket, those lorry drivers who stop in wide load bays or refuge areas that say “No stopping unless in emergency” those lorry drivers who stop illegally on on slips rather than stop legally on the roads leading up to the motorway, the people that drive down the hard shoulder at 70 RIGHT UNDER a sign that says “Hard shoulders for emergency only”, the list goes on and on and on. What can you do? God only knows.

Yes use 999 but try to get the nearest marker-post number, and make sure to give the direction that you’re travelling. You are right to be ■■■■■■ about it. Please copy/paste you post and send it to ha_info@highways.gsi.gov.uk

Hahahahaha! Not so long ago, on the M1 Northbound somewhere near Watford (Herts, not Gap) I spotted some debris in Lane 1. So I dialled 999 and got put through to the Police. I gave the marker post number to pinpoint the location, but the operator insisted on being given a Junction number. I repeated the MP number but she was adamant that wasn’t sufficient and repeatedly demanded to be given a Junction number. I gave up in the end - TBH I couldn’t be sure whether it was before or after the last junction, but I knew full well that the MP number would identify the location (I worked in a Police control room for several years in the mid 80’s).

I got another reply from the Highways if anyone’s interested. Also I went up the M6 Wednesday evening and again the slip road to the eastbound M62 was closed, but this time the signs warning of this were well before J19, so maybe someone out there is listening.

Hi David,
Â
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback to the Highways Agency. Your feedback regarding the variable message signs has been passed to me to investigate and respond. To address all of your questions below, I will bullet my responses:
‘Check you fuel’ - Thank you for highlighting the location of these messages, I will investigate whether this legend is set on fixed or mobile variable message signs and seek to change the location of these messages.
M6 north on to the M62 eastbound closure - Unfortunately without a date I cannot check what happened with the signing prior to J19 for this closure, but I will investigate our signing plans to ensure that these signs are included for future closures. Please note that any signs that provide information on a closure can be overwritten by queue protection signing and/or signing to manage an incident, we therefore encourage drivers to utilise our disruption search facility provided via our Traffic England website - trafficengland.com where we aim to provide 7 days notice for planned roadworks.
The red X over the hardshoulder - thank you for highlighting your concerns about closing the hardshoulder for broken down vehicles, I will pass this to our SW regional control centre so lessons can be learnt.
Thank you again for this feedback. Should you have any further questions, please contact our information line.
Â
Kind Regards

Nice one
Nothing would have changed if daidap had just moaned on here about it rather than doing something positive about it .

By raising it, it looks like it has been investigated and and efforts made to improve it .

Sometimes people just don’t understand the reason for vms settings the way they are.

Ps Catriona is well on the ball and will sort things.
