High speed tractors

cieranc:
But costs considerably more in the first place
And I wouldn’t like to be buying tyres for one!

i think the 135k quoted is list price and actual price is almost half that,

tractorhouse.com/list/list.a … 8&Manu=JCB

wouldnt say overated the only tractors legally allowed to do over 20 mph (32kph) are fastracs and unimogs due tothe supension, brakes and steering systems built into them. Thebig accident waiting to happen are the john deere, fendts etc, that dont currently meet uk legislation with respect to steering, braking and suspansion being sold with the capability to travel at up to 40mph it really is an aspect that vosa/police should be taking a long hard look at, remember that a 16 year old lad could be driving these with very little training and certainly no extra driving/skill test. Like i said really is an accident waiting to happen, i just hope im not in the way when it does.
Grumps your looking at 2nd hand prices there we have a quote at the moment wanting 135k of us to buy a new 3230 fastrac, look at an 8310 at 175k list and it really will make your eyes water

I’ll lay my cards on the table, i am a fastrac driving farm worker, i can legally drive a fastrac on the road at 16 as an agricultural vehicle, at 40 mph, without any drivers hour restrictios (no tachos) so long as i am involved in a agricultural activity related to my employers business as long as wedont exceed 24300ish gvw and we dont need an o license to do this, trust me we have looked into it to the enth degree.
Please dont shoot me down in flames
James

incorrect not at 16 you can,t

At the age of 16 years old you may:
drive a tractor on the road when driving to, or returning from, your practical driving test appointment
after passing your tractor test, only drive tractors less than 2.45 metres wide and tow trailers less than 2.45 metres wide with two wheels, or four wheels that are close together

grumps 1:
whats the forums opinion on them?i was stuck behind one the other day think it was a fasttrack or summat?and the trailer it was towing was huge maybe 18ton.im assuming it was running on cherry and it was doing 55k surely this is taking the ■■■■ :imp:

Nothing wrong with tractors

d4c24a why cant i drive a fastrac at 16 a 2170 measures 2.35 metres wide and the trailer will be a twin axle therefore having four wheels close together, the four wheels close together is to stop 16 yo from towing trailers on dollys

at 16 you can,t just go out and drive a tractor on the road ,you need to do a tractor test first like it says in my post

Fastracs don’t seem as popular as they used to be around here. Big John Deeres seem to be the contractors heavy choice. AreGastracs overrated? I ask because when I drove plant, I always preffered Case 580 and Cat 428 over a JCB 3cx. Not very patriotic ( and Sir Anthony Bamford lives not far from here) but I neverliked their wheeled diggers.

Case 580’s were the dogs doodars for pushing even a jcb dyed in the wool owner would tell you those old grey cab jcb’s were no good on the front end, i had 3 new 580’s over ten years and they were never touched by a fitter.

shame the new CNH offerings are total crap never had such an unreliable machine as the 590 ,in the end i swapped it for an older 3cx

Would it be taking the ■■■■ if it was doing 15mph?
Or only had a 6 ton trailer?

It’s just a tractor. I can’t see the problem.

Well some may see the problem as if a law abideing haulier has to go to the extra expense then is it fair that that haulier has the bread taken out of his mouth by someone who doesn’t?

could you not buy one ? just saying like … :sunglasses:

For local work you mean or continental?

You need one of these for continental work

d4c24a yes you have to take a test but the test is an absolut joke, drive round the village green etc, then you can legally go out and drive a fastrac at 40mph with no experience and no training, lets just hope that the accident waiting to happen doesnt.

Still noone willing to put up some running costs of an artic tractor unit and tipping trailer■■?

and at 17 you could pass your car test and drive a ■■? hp car with a ■■? top speed and go on a motorway that you have never even driven on yet ,with a car full of passengers , now that is a total arse

5 mins from my house to their yard ,had some good stuff out of there that was left behind
shame crms got too big for their boots and it all got brought to an end

d4c24a but the likely hood is that you will have had some tuition/lessons to take your car test, but where would you fing lessons for a tractor test having said that the damage a 16 year old lad could do with atractor a trailer which has the potential to gross up to 40 tonnes is un thinkable, the car test comparrison doesnt make it ok does it.

i know where your coming from but 99% of 16 year olds taking their test are from a farming background and are not “green” in the use of a tractor

and if they are grossing 40 tons ,then they are around 15 tons over weight too

You are restricted on weight with a tractor licence, you are not allowed to pull 24360kg as full licence drivers can.

How many farmers pay a blind bit of notice to weight regulations■■? At 16 you might be restricted to a weight and at 40 tonnes you might be 15 tonnes over weight, i know it happens we run a commercial grain store with weighridges etc. and may have the tickets to prove that weight and age restrictions go unpunished by plod/vosa, your fendt/low loader will be overweight if taken on a public highway, it is an accident waiting to happen and the authorities really should look at it.

Out of intrest i hope you dont drive your fendt at the 40mph that its capable of as you will doing twice the speed limit legal for it, just like me doing 140mpg in my car on a motorway!!! Id probably end up locked up for doing it in my car

I met one of the ex directors of CRMS on a plane coming back from Agritechnica, i asked him about how long he had been with Claas and he reeled off his CV since leaving school, but never mentioned CRMS  . Hook was a great place, they used to have fitters there who could rebuild Poclain wheel motors.
