I got it wrong Fin,I was thinking of the road that goes by the Tally Ho pub.

funny you should be talking about using gears dave.when i wes going through my ;training; with wincanton, they had us out on a test run at 40 tons gross and when i was about to come down birdlip i was told by the tester (who had held a hgv licence for 3 years!) to just use brakes as gearboxes are expensive! :open_mouth: i told him exactly what my old man told me …YOU GO DOWN THE HILL IN THE SAME GEAR THAT YOU WOULD GO UP IT LOADED.i still got the job…but left after 18 months as they are a bunch of a…s.bob.

Hi Bob,
There were a lot of truck writer’s arguing that it was cheaper to wear brake pads out, than gearboxes,I can’t see the gearbox wearing out that quick if its used right,a lot of these assessors and examiners have done no real driving, they are classroom collar and tie drivers, never got their hands dirty. That will probably get a response :smiling_imp:   .
Cheers Dave.

Hi Fin,
I remember that well,he tipped it opposite Handmore Farm,a car came out of the Bredwardine turn,as he was overtaking something, his Leyland Clydesdalee was short, she went end over end,Tony wa thrown through the windscreen, had sixty odd stitches in his arm and head, his alsation dog was trapped in the lorry,Tony refused to leave for hospital until the dog was freed, the dog was fine.
Cheers Dave.

Tony Lewis Clydesdale which he had the accident in,it was repaired and run for a few more years, now sits in the corner of his yard.
