Here goes nothing... cat. C PASSED!

Hi EBGBz,
:grimacing: CONGRATULATIONS on passing your Cat “C” driving test
  :grimacing:   :grimacing:

As you said mate, you got 9 minors, but that’s still a pass.

EBGBz:
… the instructor has to drive you back to wherever you came from, even though I was in a completely fit state to be driving back…

Sorry mate, I have to slightly disagree with you on that point, because anybody who has taken a driving test is in a highly charged emotional state, no matter whether they passed or failed. From my experience as an ex-LGV instructor, test candidates are either euphoric or massively depressed, even angry, after taking their test. I don’t know of a single provider who allows LGV driving test candidates to drive back to base after taking their driving test. IMHO, it’s just not a good idea for reasons of road safety. You’re only human after all.

But I still had to get into my car and drive myself home when I got back to the yard, because there was no other way I was getting home that day. Moreover, the only emotion I felt when I received the pass certificate was relief, although you’re spot on with the majority of cases, I certainly wasn’t fit to drive after passing my car test a few years ago…

The problem is usually immediately after the test.
By the time you had a little ‘Taxi’ ride back to the yard, you would have chilled out a bit.

Being driven back was still a worthwhile experience, as I’d never been in the passenger seat in an lgv before, as Frank had never seen it worthwhile to do a demo drive for me. I can’t believe how easy Eric made that tough old gearbox in that volvo seem when he was driving it. It shows that I’ve still got a lot to learn from here on in, and having some more time out (working maybe) would do a world of good as far as comfort in driving an lgv and technique are concerned.

Yeah, I agree with Rog and Dave, my instructor told me that whether I passed or failed he would be driving the truck back, apart from the elation or tears, actually doing the driving test is mentally draining so a break before leaping into your car to get home is a very sound idea.

Anyway, nice one, well done on passing, enjoy.

I know I’ve already got a job already (not driving tho) but I’ve spoken with my boss who’s going to make some phonecalls etc. with a view to getting me into the emerald park RDC in bristol driving one of their rigids… I know it’s a bit of a commute, and there’s nothing set in stone, but what the hey, if it comes off, there’s definitely some driving experience in there.
