Just out of interest why would Pickfords have a left hand drive Scammell?

Easier to see the edge of the road - same way the Swiss and Italians kept RHD for many of their lorries, particularly in mountainous regions.

As Fodenway suggested a couple of post up the page, it was probably the better to see the nearside kerb. It was quite common practice in those days to use LHD tractive units on heavy haulage here in UK.

Well, they did it, and that’s the most important! The pictures are not clear enough, but I understand the two bogies are normally linked by a cable, which is detached for some of the sharp manoeuvers?

When I worked for Pickfords (Industrial as it became!) my regular truck was a LHD Crusader, and that was a Uk vehicle specified with left hand drive.

Quite a number of the Scammells (and of course the MAN Jumbos) that Pickfords ran were LHD
