Haven’t seen this before, a 8x6 with what seems to be a extended cab.
Thats the XXL cab Patrick. Popular in Oz, So much so, operators put enough pressure on Volvo to bring out a XXL on the mark 4.

As for the tri drive, a lot were pre set from the factory for the diff locks to kick in below a set speed(around 20kph) making them difficult to steer on loose ground. 2 steering axles seem to be more popular now…

Cheers Colin, is that a factory conversion though■■? I’ve only seen a Danish haulier with those XXL cabs (mk2/3) here on the continent, but I always assumed it was a “in-house” job? Looks good though, I quite like the Volvo cab, but the bunk could do with a couple of inches.
A ‘bit’ ■■ That was a brilliant link Colinwallace1, almost makes me envious to get back on the road, if I was offered something like that. Never mind the bunk though, I would be worried about dropping off while rolling, with the truck doing so much for me.

My kind of load that, Patrick, a nice clear view down the sides. Not sure I’d like to spend many nights on the road in that skinny little bunk though, spoilt we are nowadays, I used to love tramping with just a board and a sleeping bag across the engine to slumber on night after night.
You youngsters don’t know you’re born! When I used to tramp in my trusty old Atki etc.

I’d built this Peterbilt out of a Revell kit many moons ago, sadly lost it though, due to moving house a couple of times… wonder if it’s still available as a kit?

Hi Spardo, the kit is amazing these days isn’t it?. I grew up on 1970’s ERF’s. The biggest problem i think with modern trucks is emissions legislation is making them so unreliable.
Imagine if these new vehicles were built without adblue and dpf’s with all the censors and pumps that go wrong.
I was given a new FH16 Globetrotter in 2016, i’d returned to Melbourne from Sydney the night before with Castrol oil products, tipped Derrimut that morning. Did about 1.5km, approaching the roundabout outside the new Volvo dealership and the Adblue pump failed. It was as if someone in the dealership pressed the fail button to bring in work.
About 5hrs down before a new pump was robbed from a stock vehicle. If that had happened on the way down from Sydney, i would have been on km rate and not hourly rate, phew.
You can see why some UK hauliers are putting Fodens and ERF’s back to work.
