Hi Johnny,
Hope you are well?
Whips will be on in a minute after he has googled the company!
Nice to see you still have affection for all things V8! Cheer’s Pete
Next thing is Merc V8’s Pete, especially for you, as we all know how much you like Teutonic engineering mate!
Cheers Dean, I’m a bit confused about the Scammell though, as it says that the engine’s output is 450hp, but I thought the old ■■■■■■■ 335 was fitted?
Hello Patrick,
They were offered with more engine options than i remembered. Just been through my Contractor stuff
and attached an engine spec sheet for the Contractors.
However Wynns and Scammell between them developed the mark 2 contractor with the 450 bhp ■■■■■■■■
Only 6 were built with 4 going to Wynns and 2 to Pickfords. The Econofreight one must have been bought
from either Wynns or Pickfords second hand.
Right then chaps, what motor is this ? I know the answer and i really like the interior. However can anyone tell me if they
are the original seats as they look very comfortable and i wondered if they had been fitted after ■■

Nice little ‘teaser’ that! I’ts got '60s switch-gear and '70s door mirror, top-mounted wipers and a gear-pattern plate for a Fuller Roadranger 'box. The windscreen looks to be quite narrow, though that might be an optical illusion - it might have a split-screen. Seats are probably retro or an optional extra. Steering wheel looks late '70s. No engine hump so could possibly be a bonneted unit. An interesting one… Robert
Interior is a Contractor. Seats look like they started life in a Jag or something.
The Tome 142 looks superb. It has model numbers unknown to me- what is a 142EW? It also has a 410 badge on it. I guess that’s an add-on, given that 142’s used to say “Intercooler”. Why not give it the full 420 though?

I’ve just remembered I actually sat in the (RHD) driver’s seat of a Contractor at either the 1968 Motor Show or the 1970 one at Earls Court. I remember being disappointed to find that it was fitted with an auto box (Allison, I think). See, I can remember details of what I did 50 years ago and can’t remember where I’ve put my mug of tea! Your’e right there Dig ! I wouldn’t have fretted about auto boxes in '68 as I didn’t learn to drive until a few months later . Robert

I’m with ■■■■■■■ anorak, it’s a Contractor, fitted with seats from either a Jag or a Rover… looks more comfy than the original “planks”… is this particular Contractor still earning it’s keep Dean■■?
You will find during several weeks and months many pictures I found before be fired from my last job …(about 400 pictures)
I worked for 33 years for the well-known French manufacturer of heavy haulage trailers named NICOLAS
We have sold many trailers and SPMT to Econofreight, ALE, Wynns, Cadzow, Tecnip UK, Airbus UK but at the end of 2018, the German Group TII (Scheuerle, Nicolas, Kamag,TII India) have decided to close our factory and only keep After Sales Service Department … it was our death !!!
This is the memory of about 600 workers (600 in 1980 … only 35 today) I introduce to you now.
Have nice evening with these old pictures, Fergie55 will be happy. He should not lost his time to copy, to paste our pictures now !!! LOL

Correct Anorak its a Contractor ! I thought the seats were out of a car as well as the brochure i have shows very basic seats.
I must say i do like that interior and dash, talk about character unlike the modern crap.

Sorry to hear you have lost your job “combi89” thats very unfortunate ! Unfortunately being loyal these days means nothing which is a
shame but it seems accountants run companies. Have you managed to find another job ?
It will be intresting to see the photo’s you post.

I’ve been inside the Nicolas premises just the once back in 2014 or 2015, to load a lump of steel (see pic). I remember most blokes I had a wee chat with weren’t all that chuffed to be part of the TII group… with hindsight, they were probably right…
