Health and Safety Stupidity

Corus now Tata Steel at Port Talbot required me to wear a long sleeved hi-viz, hi-viz trousers, hard hat with chin strap, safety glasses, ankle boots and ear defenders.

Then let me tip scrap in a bomb holl in 12 inches of water in the pitch black in the middle of nowhere on my own, what a load of crap nobody puts themselves in harm’s way intentionally, accidents will happen despite all this nonsense they always have and they the only reason you would need to wear a long sleeve hi viz vest is if your working on a 50 mph road plus

peugeot coventry is may personnel favorite .
on arrival at the gate the security git informs you that your bog standard HI-VIZ vest is "no good here mate you must wear this " he then hands you the correct vest , a [zb] PINK one ffs , that has a tag stitched into it informing you its not upto standard and isnt the correct safety code :open_mouth:

so whats the point of that then ?

everytime ive been in ive refused point blank to wear it and tucked it into my belt ( i refuse to be killed wearing pink ) thats the best they are going to get from me :imp:

If you mean Stoke Works. I can see their reasoning, anyone could just wander in and out and there was nothing to stop you just walking around the factory. I spent hours in and out of the competitions department

When RYTON was open, we were just given a pager and I dont remember any HS bull

Last time I went past the now levelled Ryton plant there seemed to be some sort of enormous box trailer mothballing thing going on there, like on old aerodromes.

I’ve known people in warehouses be paid out for dropping something on his foot that weighed 3kg. He was wearing steelies anyway but got a grand.
Or someone dropped a stapler on his shin and he even went to A and E with it, it wasn’t even a scratch and was in a transport office. Got a pay out anyway so bear that in mind when you’re asked to conform to any of these pantomimes.

& exactly which piece of PPE would have prevented these companies employers liabilities insurers from having to pay out?? The simple answer is none, these are rules made by ‘SMALL PEOPLE’ who need to impose themselves on as many people as possible to prove to the world that they really aren’t totally insignificant!!! (which of course they are!!)

Ceva Logistics in Wellsbourne is my favourite all delivery drivers have to park outside on the road an walk in to book in at goods in. but the walk way we have to follow goes all the way around the perimeter of the yard around the back of their trailers and there is no barrier to stop the trailers being moved over the walkway, so any way once you have booked in and told which bay to go on walk back to your truck and manover to the allocated bay. Was once given a load of verbal by a little hitler for not using my hazard lights reversing on to a bay until i informed him he had walked behind my truck from my blindside and if he can’t see my reversing lights on both my trailer and unit or hear my reversing bleeper then he should stop working in the yard also the rules do not say anything about using hazard lights, So any way once you get up to the allocated bay they wonder why your not getting out an opening the back doors simple answer to that is there is no walkway along side the loading bay :unamused: :unamused:

ok heres a very silly rule where i now work…
I now work at JLR solihull as a tug driver…
Now all tug drivers are dhl contracts and the track(this is where the landrovers are made) are all employed by landrover…
all dhl tug drivers must wear hi viz at all times when driving round the track delivering parts to the track(u got me so far yes) we also mustwear safety boots and no hoodie tops(I can see the logic here with hoodies) But the landrover bods who make the cars wear dark green tops and black trousers and dont have to wear hi viz but if a tug drivers dares to not wear a hi viz he gets a strike/told off…

Roymondo:
I think it’s quite reasonable to require drivers to put on hard hats, hi-viz etc when driving into the area where they might be needed, as it is proof positive that they have the required item(s) in their possession, ready and able to be worn and (more importantly) that if something happened that required them to get out and do something, they would already be wearing the stuff.

:open_mouth: Whooah! …Careful mate, it sounds to me like “they” have got to you, do you have any flashbacks of abduction, strawb lights, or white noise??.., it’s one less of us and one more of them, they’re out to get us, be warned.
