Has anyone done this

Qhunter:
Dafmad: how it works is that the police will send a letter to the registered keeper asking them who was driving the vehicle at a particular time. If the registered keeper fails to supply this information then they are guilty of an offence under the Road Traffic Act.

The police rarely bother persuing it as they know full well that having vehicle’s registered in other people’s name’s other than the actual driver’s goes on on a wide scale and again it’s too much paperwork to bother chasing it up.

Like I said before, it’s all scare-mongering and the majority of the gullible Joe Public lap it all up.

i was listening to the radio the other night about this and the best one was… when you get a ticket put down the driver as someone who lives overseas they wont chase it up as it costs to much.
another one was dont reply cos after 3 attemps they give up as it costs to much.

Sounds about right. Also having foreign plates on your motor has many many advantages too (like the lack of need for a tax disc  ) and it really isn’t difficult to contact one of these online companies that specialise in making reg plates up without documentation - you just spin them a tale about being from x country but working in the UK and you’ve had your plates stolen, can they make you some more up. The majority of them will be happy to oblige for a few quid more than the normal price and they’ll also replace the GB EU-logo with the one from your ‘home’ country too. Just don’t do it with Dutch plates because theirs are embossed and also a type font that the online reg plate makers can’t get :bulb: . Not that I’d know anything about any of this of course, just ‘what I’ve heard’ … :smiling_imp:

Surely if you’re British in a RHD car and have foreign plates it’s going to cause a lot of suspicion if you’re pulled by the police who would investigate further ie ask to look at the VIN and run it through the PNC.
