Has anyone changed their opinion of cyclists?

Mine hasn’t changed I’m afraid…

Crack on C/F! good post, but lets consider the tax revenue, cyclists zero, motorists, hauliers=big bucks the government etc &TFL just tell certain sectors of society what they wish to hear :open_mouth:

Tax benefit is perpheral to main Government ambition of us tearing each other apart whilst they sneak EU federalism into mainstream UK

Only a few months ago I was escorting a STGO 3 load through a town, cant remember where, but was around Swindon area. As we were 145 tons and pretty wide we had to keep things nice and steady. We were making steady progress down the single carriageway at 30mph even though the speed limit was 40mph and we soon came up behind a cyclist who I imagine was doing 14mph. The traffic flow in the opposite lane was pretty constant, so the wide load we had, had to stay in lane, we had no chance of overtaking the cyclist. I knew the only way we could make progress was for the cyclist to hop onto the footpath and let us pass, so I drew the pilot van level with the cyclist and round my window down and said (hey mate can you please let us pass we’ve got a wide load behind you)

The response of the cyclist was to phlegm up a greeny and spit it on the floor in front of him whilst still cycling and to stare at me in the eye. I said shall I take that as a no then, he shrugged his shoulders whilst he still kept his course of travel whilst still staring at me.

I then held back and got on the radio to the guy behind to tell him" looks like we’re here for the long haul" so we, and a huge queue of traffic sat behind the cyclist until a few miles down the road became a dual carriageway.

Did it ruin my day - No
Did I get in from work and complain about the nasty cyclist on the Internet - No
Did it make me think all cyclists are a law unto themselves - No
Did it make me think in every type of road user they may be a couple of throbbers - Yes
Judging by the cyclists size, shape and company uniform which is a well known haulage firm, I put him down to a miserable truck driver on his way to work :grimacing:

Most sensible post I’ve seen on the whole truck v bike thingy. Well said Chester

in Edmonton last week at about 7am I had been overtaken by a cyclist a couple of times and then we got to a traffic light controlled crossroads. Lights on red I stopped and he just carried on, didnt look or slow down just carried on as if it were a straight road. Had someone t boned him it would have probably killed him and possibly traumatised the driver. Not to mention the stress of an inquest and possible Police case. Crazy bloke

You know for certain that this crazy bloke didn’t look left and right, just because his head didn’t move 90 degrees doesn’t mean he couldn’t see what was happening, and maybe this guy rides here every morning and knows just how long he has before the other traffic starts moving after his lights are on red !! I see countless vehicles going through red lights so its not exclusive to cyclists :grimacing:

And of course I suppose you have never seen a car or a lorry run a red light? If a cyclist runs a red light and hits a pedestrian or another vehicle who will come off worst?
If a car or truck runs a red light and hits something the consequences can be a little different.
Does not make it right though.None of them should ignore a red light.

DC Albion i think you find that it would be more the cyclist jumping red lights then it would be with a car and a lorry.

I also think you find that a dippy cyclist can still hurt/kill a ped.

Role on the next 15 pages

Jaywalkers deserve all they get !! :grimacing:

It’ll never make 15 :grimacing:

The only way to treat a cyclist on the road is as if they are suicidal and want you to squish em.

I stay as far away from them as possible and only over take if i can get enough space between me and them, otherwise if i can’t and tail backs of traffic result, tough. It would of course be nice if the cyclists give way but they rarely if ever do.

I had one just plodding along knowing for a fact i was unable to get past. He went past a number of gaps and lay-bys not having the care in the world. Now he had a few chances to get in but because he is up himself he just carried on with his Argus bike, and boot sale lycra.

I even had one come out of a junction without looking. I tooted the horn to make him aware that i was there (Not road rage horn) and he stuck his finger up. I went past him but i was thinking, you did the mistake, but it’s my fault you just pulled out without turning your massive head?.

I could go on, but not all cyclists are jumped up ■■■■. There are some that are really nice people and allow you by if they know your not going to make it past.

nope 75% nutters 25% bonkers

But the nice ones are few and far between, better to treat them all like they have all signed a suicide pact!

I laugh at all the lycra clad road warriors anyway, get a proper bike and go off road.

downhill is where the real fun is, I ride an Iron Horse Sunday for those into proper bike riding

I think this sorts it out a bit

Forgive my ignorance but what does it “sort out” ■■

It’s in relation to this comment

Even though it’s not a red light it shows clearly that they also don’t stick to the law to.

A pointless vid. It shows 1 person cycling over a crossing between 2 pedestrians. It’s already accepted that ALL road users break the law at some point. Go back on YouTube & look at the stack of cars & trucks running reds, it happens. Get over it.

Hang on Mr Happy, chill a bit fella. It’s just showing DC Albion that cyclists are not perfect, it was in relation to HIS comment. I couldn’t care less and I am not that stupid to not know that you and myself have jumped a light in the past! as you say, it happens. Get over it
