Harsh braking??

you’d be better off finding another job. people like that arn’t worth working for.

When I used to drive with Vemis, harsh braking was a speed reduction of 10 or more KPH per second. as an assessor, i could have a pretty good view of somebodys driving style by studying the data on harsh braking, acceloration, fuel economy, high revs, low revs etc so i could concentrate any training or advice in that area.

That’s what seems to be missing in some of these companies.

“The machine says this” - well, ok, but what about sending an assessor out with the driver to find out WHY ■■?

You can spot harsh braking quite easily on an analogue tacho. When they were first installed (the spy in the cab :unamused: ) I was working as a TM for Thorn EMI. They were implementing a system to analyse the charts, find the drivers who did it “too often”, and send them off for remedial training.

A good driver can only do so much to avoid harsh braking such as using good forward observations and planning for most situations but there will always be times when some numpty does something unexpected such as cut in quickly in front and then brake.

20 times a day on average!!!

When I say 20 times a day i mean that people cut in that often - not that I react badly to it.
I have been a commercial driver for over 25 years and have learned to expect the unexpected.

As far as driving in general is concerned I think the standard of driving now is nothing short of criminal - half of them should be banned for some of the tricks they do. The highway code is seen as an irrelevance and the rules are forgotten as soon as they pass their test. It’s a free for all now and anything goes!

I have noticed the standard of driving in London has dropped off a cliff now, but I think I know why. Most of the bad driving I see … apart from the usual antics of the average window licking chav in his souped-up shed … seems to eminate from foreign drivers. It always seems to be Mr Swarthy-Stuble-Chin in his Merc, BMW or similar vehicle, on UK plates or foreign. As the percentage of these people in London rises, the standard of driving drops. It really does seem to me to be people bringing their filthy driving habits to our cities and causing mayhem on our roads.
