Bomb trolley!
Good to see you back Yeti.I agree but the the transition from Carryfast to UPS wasnât quite as happy.Sonny of all people ( like Ron ex Harrisonâs Highbury ) foresaw âissuesâ in that regard and let us know what he thought about the probable âdownsidesâ as only he could.
Ultimately proven correct in most regards
Sonny wasnât the sort to hold back with his views/opinions! personally i got on fine with him. 40 years since NK depot closed down..a very sad day.
I can still remember his words now. There was a UPS Seaborne manager, who Iâd coincidentally been interviewed by for a possible job move from Carryfast to UPS Seabourne, some time before they also bought us out.
Heâd offered me a job but it all sounded too good to be true and didnât trust him so I stayed where I was.
Then I ended up working for them anyway by the sell out.
So he turns up at Feltham telling us all about the new regime and Sonny shouted ( bellowed ) at him and everyone else in the room ââyouâve degraded our jobs and job titlesââ which as it turned out was spot on.
The devil was in the detail line haul driver v Feeder driver in UPS parlance.I didnât realise what Sonny meant at the time. The Night Trunk Driver job title was removed.
Seabourne Drivers were line haul. But we got lumbered as Feeders which later eventually opened up a can of worms regarding other duties with the help of POS Danny Bryan, but by then Sonny had gone.
NK was my first run with the firm. Two return runs FM to NK nice early job and finish if only one trailer load each way.All turned to crap when it changed to hub system at Nuneaton under UPS all hand ball the pallets got rid of and drivers expected to âhelpâ in the transhipment operation.Iâll not incur the wrath of my Australian heckler by telling the rest again.
