hiya,
They’ll have to resurrect Guy Motors and produce one overnight to bring about that miracle, oh and Gardners will have to go back in production and then have to consider would they supply the engine to Guy’s on this occasion cos there’s no published record of supplying them in the past to motors that has been produced so far, all the servicing and repairs that must have been done to these motors has never been shown, repair records and bills of sale for so many motors and so far nothing has been shown to convince me that such a dinosaur ever existed…

Blimey and there’s me thinking they never fitted it in the thing because the management at Guy Motors knew it it would be just as zb slow as if it had the 180 in it but it would weigh even more.

Come on John, your being a bit harsh there mate, the Big J had the same W.B. as the ERF “A” series and the Seddon 32/4 and those two chassis both had the 240 engine option. So if that SOM Big J did (big did!) have a 240LXB in it,it would have been no problem to couple up to a 30" king pin, infact I think our 240 “A” series coupled to the 40" pins on the Task tri-axles.Well we never IIRC had any coupling problems!! Cheers Dennis.

Fair play Martyn, old Dennis is big enough to admit when he’s wrong,as he has about the Guy Big J 8LXB.
You have to admire the man for that.
Cheers Dave.

I never had any problem coupling to any trailer within the SoM fleet during my service with the 240 powered Big J,as Dennis has stated, the pin distance would have been standard on all UK manufactures chassis’.

David
