Not my picture, seen on Facebook.Funny old world isn’t it. I would have loved to own and drive that lorry. How did it compare to a ‘N’ reg Scania or Volvo? Well, it would have been much noisier! (I have terrible tinnitus now!) it would at least have had power steering. The cab would be cramped and uncomfortable compared to the Swedes. No synchromesh (how often did you bother with the clutch anyway?) the sleeper was a rabbit hutch - my earlier trucks had no sleeper!
And yet… I would have been very happy with that!
So would I. But caveats here: the one I drove had no power steering. Several that went to BOC Transhield were cancelled export orders with no power steering. No synchromesh is better, I agree. But again, the one I drove had a 6-sp David Brown. Big-Js also came with Fuller 9509 boxes, especially the ones with 290 ■■■■■■■ in. So my Big-J would have a Nightrider sleeper conversion with a ■■■■■■■ 290 or 335 (yes, apparently they existed too), a 9-sp Fuller and (if the late '60s motor show exhibits were anything to go by) LHD too! I’d put up with an 8LXB, of course. Wake up, girl at the back!!

Now then Gaz I’ll give you 10 plus for trying but come on Mate that is a Seddon with a Motor Panels sleeper cab which was the same as used on Dust Bin motors ! Cheers Dennis. 
I managed to speak with someone who worked for the parts dept in Gardner. Apparently they ordered too many “240” badges and this was causing a cash flow problem. It was suggested that they should contact anyone who had bought a J4T and tell them that they could fool all the other drivers and operators into believing that they had a 240 instead of a 180. All they had to do was fit the “240” badge and nobody would notice. Worked a treat apparently and they sold out within a month.
