Hi Steve,
Bill is my old feller!
The only AEC we can remember riding in with him had the windcreen wiper control near to the roof lining,i think they could of been air operated or thet certainly sounded like it. The AEC had a huge green indicator lighter that flashed when the they were used.I remember calling into Stretton depot, bunkering up and toping up the oil.To do this my dad removed all the blankets, lifted the engine cover and topped up the oil.I can still feel the heat from the engine.
We are still looking for more photos,a Greenwoods AEC would be a bonus.Have you come across any.
My brother used to work in the workshop at Warrington depot as a fitter, and during the school holidays i used to come down to stay with him and got a bit of a job part time working at libbys across the way from them uloading the bags of cement i think it was from the ferrymasters that used to come in,it was all hand ball and double stacked.
When I was going back to Glasgow i used to get a lift from one of the drivers that was going up there in an old Foden that they used to call the iron Lung, those were the days, not like now they have got it eas y.
Stefluc
When I was on DFDS we had an old boy known as Blossom! Iirc he used to drive for them out of the Hoddesdon depot. He went on to become an owner driver pulling for Portbridge.
