"Greasy Spoon Cafes" The public face of Truckers

In which countries have you learned the precise details of tax and employment law?
Did you take advantage of IR35 when it was available?

Only one of them needs to work it out and then he can tell the other 10 guys he lives with.

Was an article on radio yesterday.
Saying drivers of bin lorries in various areas of the country .are being approached on there rounds by companies.
Basically offering them jobs and.more money. And it’s leading to shortage of bin men in areas now.
Mostly Devon and Cornwall area .

Are Gregory’s that desperate

Yes. and let’s face it, whilst a lot of Class 2 drivers on the bins might yearn to move to a “proper” lorry driving job (no offence to bin lorry drivers intended, it’s a specialised job which I wouldn’t personally go near but respect those who do) I very much doubt there’s many going the other way. The bright idea to skip Cat C can only add to the shortfall.

I take no offence at the post above and can only speak for the places i work but i can honestly tell you few of our drivers leave to go elsewhere, we work 37 hours Monday to Friday and its job and finish, 27 days holiday plus bank holidays, no Tachographs and a brilliant pension scheme, its not for everyone and some drivers cannot stick it the ones that can tend to stay for many years or until they retire.

Am I presuming that you are directly employed by the council or have TUPE’d and kept your original pay and conditions? If so it would indeed be an attractive job for someone who wants regular hours and a decent pay structure. I can also fully understand what you’re saying about it not being for everyone; I’ve just finished a job after 15 years on animal feeds delivery and the same applies there.

I’m sure you’ll agree though that the Cat C skip won’t help recruitment in the sector.

Because English people don’t have friends? The internet? Accountants? Local libraries? Telephones? Google? Or anyone to advise them?

Because “we Brits” don’t have any mates? Or google? Or accountants? Or forums like this one?

Sorry if he has offended you sweetheart, but should you not be sat blocking traffic on the M25? By flip flops he means the people from what used to be from the poorer European countries who were willing to work for peanuts thus keeping the wages lower for the past decade and our weak government are about to cave in and do what the corporates are wanting

You mean those people who are more literate, better qualified and harder-working than you? And you are now envious of them?
After all they could actually pass a stringent test to drive a truck, learn to read and write, not only in their own language, but in two, three or four others.
People of our generation from “those countries” learned Russian, German and English. As well as their own “mother-tongue”, whether that was Polish, Czech, Romanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian. (all of which are very difficult to learn, except Romanian which is quite easy… If you know Latin or Italian, or even Esperanto.)
How many languages do YOU speak, “sweetheart”?
In which countries have you learned the precise details of tax and employment law?
Did you take advantage of IR35 when it was available?
Or are you just another miserable and jealous old racist?

To really experience racism, one has to go abroad as an Englishman.
When you boast about ‘taking advantage of IR35’, don’t you really mean ‘taking advantage of the taxman’? Sneaking into the night with your ill gotten gains is not something to shout about. There is nothing clever about turning up for work and demanding your wages get paid gross. It is hard faced though, as very little gets back to the taxman.
Also, it is easy to pick up another language when you border the country itself. We are an island nation with the most widely spoken language in the world, so taking time to study Russian is an indulgence few have need or time for.

If these drivers are so intelligent then why are they drivers surely their higher intelect would be more useful in other professions, drive around Europe and you’ll see stupidity from drivers of all nationalities and as for tolerance wouldn’t fancy be black in many of the former eastern bloc or to hit the jackpot black and gay.

Is it racist to be of blackface from wiping 5th wheel grease down, as your brow sweats from yet another 15 hour shift in the midday sun?

Who’s “Jealous” of who here?

“Old” - That’s a given though.
