Slackeye, yes it is frustrating for you but remember the agency don’t get paid for last-minute cancellations either!
They should have a clause with thier clients, that stipulates a charge for a cancellation within 1 hour of the booked time. But thats up to them to sort out. I have told agencies before now that if they arent prepared to compensate me for travelling to a cancelled shift, then don’t bother phoning me.
As in the case of Slackeye, he went out in his own vehicle, using his own fuel and to get what? A thanks but no thanks. It’s of no financial cost to them to sit and answer the phone, not much good to Joe Bloggs who has just wasted a fivers worth of petrol.

especially if it is his last full tank he can afford until he gets the pay for that days work. i know numerous that have taken a job and had to drive there with only about 1/4 of a tank and i have lent them a tenner to stick more in until pay day. then the job gets cancelled. he feels bad as he cant give me my tenner back and he has wasted half his petrol that he has just put in with my tenner.
Well fingers crossed it seems I may have found a decent agency. They’ve just phoned (as they promised) asking if I can be there for 5am tomorrow. Apparently i’m spare man so will only be used if theres a no show, but will still be getting 8 hours pay even if i’m not used.
These are a small independent agency so it seems they dont bullschit you quite as much as the networks/franchises.
Early days yet but always have to have hope.
Well just an update. They have been true to their words and have kept me busy since registering with them, only class 2 work but at least its work. They even pay me 40p a mile to and from the job as well as food allowances.
It just shows there are good agencies out there but you have to go through some schit ones to find them. They’ve just phoned with a weeks work starting on the 2nd Jan so hopefully it wasn’t just for the xmas rush.
Its nice when people tell you the truth.

Quality, good for you.
I can`t tell you how pleased that I am, it restores faith in the ‘system’ to be honest.
My agency are pretty fair. I’m prepared to drive almost anything so whilst things are quiet ther’re trying to share the work around the regulars who have helped out.
As some know i work at a agency as a now SENIOR consultant
If you are lets face it the best driver going you will not be on the job market yourself. Just as you guys cant find jobs the agencies are finding it hard to find work also.
You are signing onto a agency not to a full term position! If you sign to a agency that targets its staff to the amount of drivers the can bring in then you are on a loser from day one.
I’ve have offered before to give advice or help anyone out if they need it, just PM me and i can direct you the best way i can. When drove for agencies i played them the same as they played me sign with as many of them as you can.
