I was in a funeral procession years ago for my nan and my aunty said exactly the same. The lights turned red and she said to the driver, “don’t stop”. I was not happy with this and shouted at the driver to stop which they did.
I didn’t fancy joining my nan down the Crematorium that day. Some drivers coming the other way will see a green light and just go for it without looking and you’re asking to get T-Boned for which you will almost certainly get the blame.
If you run a green light, and T bone someone, you’ll just get the 4 points for “driving without due care and attention”.
A green light means “Proceed with Caution” - not FOOT TO THE FLOOR - GO!!

About 2 hours ago at time of writing this I buried my mother in law. As we were about to set off in the procession of cars to the cemetery word went round to stick close together and if we came to a red light to just ignore it and carry on, as funeral processions were allowed to do this.
This smelled wrong, but fortunately several sets of lights later we arrived safely with not a red to be seen. I’ve searched the online highway code for funerals but turned up nothing. Is this an urban legend aka complete cobblers or does anyone know if there’s a basis in fact. I can’t see it myself, as you’re not allowed to pull through a red to let an ambulance through. AFAIK only blue light vehicles are allowed to do this.
A load of cobblers.
You often can’t even get off red light tickets from a camera if you were moving for an ambulance, so I wouldn’t fancy my chances protesting because I was en route to a funeral. How do you prove you in the funeral procession if your in your own car?
Apart from anything else,.why would anybody think that a a funeral procession be deemed urgent enough to dodge red lights, in the same way as an emergency ambulance?
The guy on his last ride ain’t gonna be affected in any way by few mins delay now is he.
Years ago people had the decency to stop & tip there hat for a funeral procession , patiently wait behind the procession if following in your car , pull up & let them out of a side road
Sad to see people’s reactions today , read the posts above , no respect for the dead

I didn’t say it meant that. But in the real world if the average car driver is approaching a set of lights at 30mph and they turn green they’re just going to carry on going at that speed and will not be expecting anyone to suddenly cut across their path.
Yes, they should be proceeding with caution but I could give you a list of things as long as a Carryfast essay of things drivers should do but actually don’t. The sheer amount of accidents we see on the roads proves people often do things they shouldn’t.
But in the case of colliding with someone who has run a red light, in most situations the person running the red light is going to get the blame here. What you gonna say to the cops or your insurance if you run a red light and get hit ?
Oh it’s their fault for not seeing me coming. That’s not gonna fly in most cases.
