Going through a red light with the blues and twos

Driveroneuk:
Its up to the blue light driver to find a way through, or around…they can go around the right side of keep left signs.

Also, don’t forget if one comes up behind you whilst you’re doing 40 in the truck on a single carriageway in a solid white line section, they cannot pass you. Just keep going.

Its also illegal to drive onto the pavement with a truck to allow them past.

A pal of mine went through a red light at a junction to clear a path for an emergency vehicle, but failed to check it was clear to do so… another car hit him in the side (no injuries, but the car was trashed).

He asked his insurance co. for some sympathy towards his community-spirited gesture, but no deal (!)

They could be on their way to intercept a drunk driver or to a report of a child being abducted.

Very unlikely as they don’t seem to respond to much so [zb] 'em, I really don’t care what they are heading to and they will still get there eventually so it’s all good. :imp: :smiling_imp:

I wouldn’t do anything to help them in any situation, whether on foot or in a vehicle.

Is there a tale you want to tell Mr H?

Nope, nothing specific.

Just sheer blind hatred then! You surprise me with this!

Yep, probably that, based on an amalgamation of dealings with them over the years. And I don’t mean the occasions when I have been on the wrong side of the law.

I am surprised you are surprised.

Funny this topic came up! I’ve just finished my training and have now been assigned my station and the cop I was working with last week was an ex traffic cop and I asked him the same question. He said " sit where you are, don’t break the law". If somebody did go through and activated a red light camera then the police should notify their control room and the driver "should " be ok…

On a different note,we were answering a treble 9 call and had to go through average speed cameras and had to notify the control room that we had activated them as cops still get nicked for speeding by them if they’re not attending an emergency!

Still loving it though!

I was in London a while ago and was sitting at a cross roads when a police van when through the lights on blues and twos at exactly the same time an ambulance went through on blues and twos - talk about inches to spare :open_mouth:

How would you know if the vehicle had “activated” the average speed cameras■■? They don’t flash or anything!!

If you were on a genuine emergency call requiring a blue light response then the control room records would show that anyway so if the vehicle details flashed up as activating an average speed camera then a quick record check would show what that specific vehicle was doing at that time!!

If you were on a genuine call or blue light response driver training then you would be in the clear, subject to the control room being notified. However,if you were just in a rush because you were late for lunch etc then you would be in the deep brown stuff!!  …especially if the driver had received “advanced” blue light response driver training!! (should know better  ) :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Ambulance or Fire Brigade, I would do my best to move over but not cross a red light. The Police, absolutely no chance. The standard of driving that I’ve witnessed by the police force is bloody awful, so if they’re going to drive into me (highly possible) then I want to be stationary at the time. At one time we had the best trained police force in the world, now we have a bunch of illiterate baffoons that think it’s all just a game :frowning:

The fact that we went through the cameras well in excess of the 40 mph would have “activated” (for want of a better word) the cameras. Apparently it`s policy, unsure if its force wide or unique to our division,to manually notify the control room of any camera activation…

As for being late for lunch,is that not classed as an emergency■■? :smiling_imp:

Im sure that in most forces, are you allowed to say "Force or is it a “Service” now a days, in most “Forces” then that would be classed as an emergency

Unlike say, a child floundering and drowning in a dyke / river… then that is not an emergency and everyone can stand around and watch and wait for the water rescue team to arrive :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:

Elf and safety first, not “Water Rescue Trained” you know!!! :imp: :imp: :imp:

We actually were water rescue trained, well we were shown how to throw a flotation device and how to enter water safely.

It was all wasted on me though as I can’t swim and if the water was any higher than chest height,I’d be the one needing rescued!!

The police now train officers for swan training, how to catch them when they mistake a shiny motorway for a river, and then can take off again. Not a wind up.

I thought I would bring to your attention that there may be something wrong with your keyboard. It seems to, on occasion, type an ‘o’ when you clearly want an ‘a’. The word is Farce, not Force.

If you are sat at a red light, what is the law if an emergency vehicle is trying to get passed, and there is a delay in the lights changing,do you sit and wait,or get the fine for the camera that has nabbed you,if it went to court, would they throw out the mitigating cercimstances of the fire/police or ambo behind you is gesticulating and shouting out the window to make you move on through the red.

I’ve been in court recently for the red light camera incident as some of you might remember and the police witness said that it that situation if you move forward to let the ambulance pass, they don’t even send you a fixed penalty offer, as they know you moved to let it pass - as just after YOUR picture, there will be picture of the emergency vehicle, which also triggers the camera and they have to look for that everytime when they download the picture.
.

Other thing: I moved forward to avoid being hit from the back, the court ruled that I WAS guilty, but due to the special circumstances I am free to go without any fines or points.

Therefore I would risk a guess, that law might say that it’s illegal, but practice says that you should that due to special circumstances and let the emergency vehicle past.

I always do it.

Yes Orys, I remember that. You wrote at length about it.

If in a car or van, I would do what I could to assist.
If in an artic and 1st vehicle at the line, I wouldn’t do anything. Nothing available to me to do.
Up to the trained B&T driver to find a way around me.

In other circumstances, I would use the size of the vehicle to assist. i.e. temporarily blocking part of a roundabout, etc.

What if it’s no way around you? For example you are taking most of the road in narrow place?

I would do whatever I can no matter what vehicle I drive to help them pass, as there might be someone’s life at stack.

I have sometimes wished I could, but I haven’t yet found a way to make an artic disappear into thin air.

always been told not to move just stay where you are the polic ambulance etc are supposedly trained to find there way throu jams etc moving over could distrupt a route they had planned yards etc back

Ah, so it’s them who are trained in making an artic disapearing into the thin air
