Giving up HGV/PCV Entitlement

I am 68 in 2 weeks time. Got renewal forms in for HGV/PCV licenses a couple of weeks ago. As I am
not intending to renew them I put the notice to the side. Last night I read through the renewal application and notes
and was surprised to learn I MUST apply for a new photocard and paper license despite the fact my car
entitlement has 2 years to run. There is a very clear warning that car driving entitlement becomes invalid if this
is not done.

This is just to warn others in the same position of the consequences of doing nothing with these renewal forms.

odd that !!

I find this very strange. Are you sure that you are not misreading it?

When My LGV licence expired I did nothing, and as far as I know, my car licence is still valid until I am 75.

Here are the instructions given on the notes with the renewal form:

"You must reply to this reminder if you want to renew
your license/entitlement or if you have been told to
supply a photo on the front of this form.

You must also reply to this reminder even if you do not
want to renew your full lorry/bus entitlement. We will issue
you with a new license showing just your car/motorcycle
entitlement (if applicable). If you do not reply to this
reminder you will not hold a valid driving license."

I too found this rather strange, but its only a gentle warning to others in my position
to avoid driving a car without a valid license. Its sod’s law you will have a little bump or
minor infringement if you do not heed this.

If you’re having to send it off anyway, Then you might as well get your HGV entitlement at the same time.
You’re bound to do the odd run for someone now and again.

I had the misfortune to get revoked by DVLA, it wasnt my fault, it was the fault of Warwick police, who couldnt wait for my licence to come back from DVLA after renewal, and issued me with a fine after me telling them i couldnt produce my licence, because it was with DVLA, anyway, DVLA wrote to say my licence was revoked, until i had sent it to them, to get the points put on, would have loved to see their faces when i told them it was already with them, and was their fault i got a fine for not producing in the first place, seems you cant beat any government department at their own game. that was a long time ago though…all clean and green now.
