I still don’t know what all the fuss is about, I mean it is sensible to try and find out a little about something before you jump into it of course. After that you make your own mind up based on what information you have found out.

But to throw wobblers because some of the information you got was not really what you wanted to hear is beyond me.

I couldn’t care less what the OP thinks
Boo hoo

There’s a difference between telling someone the truth and ■■■■■■■ all over their dreams because YOU think it’s a bad idea.
Give someone the facts and let them make their own mind up.

Captain Caveman 76:

Truth:
I must admit after a couple of days on here its making me think twice about becoming a driver …

Luckily I didn’t find this board until after I’d passed! The truth is, no matter the job/career, some people love it and some will hate it.

‘so agree with this’

I am also happy I did not find this board until after I became a trucker

and thankfully when I had dreams of becoming a lorry driver I had a very good friend who is a class one driver and not only he encouraged me but he also helped me immensely, I still remember the first time I drove an articulated truck…it was his one, he taught me how, I then went to ‘training school’ after that

he is still a good friend of mine these days…25 years later and always always keeps encouraging me and giving me help/tips, he does think I’m ‘mad’ for wanting to move back full time into truck driving but he understands.

and anyway, many of us ‘mortals’ moan about our job whatever it is

Now I am much more a lurker these days than a poster but those of you who are old enough will remember me
I have to say I am pretty appalled by the replies this genuine and obviously clever young woman got. If you all think its so bad why the hell are you doing it!!!.
I left a good career in the Civil service to do the bucket list thing and drive a truck at 30 years old and do you know how strange… I LOVED IT. If that’s what the girl wants to do why not encourage her instead of bemoaning how bad it is. I drove full time for 10 years and yes I was tramping and yes I did the crappy shifts. Hell My last job was on Bulk Tippers tramping and I still loved it.
Personal circumstances meant me hanging up my driving boots but you know what… to earn good money you still have to work hard. I am now a Manager for a company specialising in Fencing and Landscaping but I work on average 60 hours a week and have a 45 minute drive each way. Yes I have a good salary but I have a hell of a lot more stress and still work long hours.
So if you really are that unhappy then bloody leave but don’t try and put everyone off.

Rant over

Here is a wider point about opinions and public discussion.
I assume that like me many of you on this forum are peed off with the mamby pamby way in which we as a Country dance around Truth. It seems the greatest concern to a native of the UK having any discourse is not to be Right or Honest or accurate but rather to make sure one does not cause offence.

So we dance around the truth we sugar coat the truth we dampen our clear speech because omg let us not upset some easily offended little lamb.

Yes let’s be decent and polite if we think that’s preferable but also let’s stop behaving like psychologists and new age feelings based morons.

Speak the Truth and let it effect ppl as it will. She asked for opinions, she got some, most encouraging some discouraging omg some were DISCOURAGING how awful how hurtful for her.

Go on post my parade ■■■■■■■■

I think it’s not the fact that your posts are discouraging its more the way those who seem fed up of trucking feal the need to take it out on other truckers who still like their job on here.

If your really that fed up please take it out on your boss. Your job isn’t our falt.

So I have no problem with you being truthful and honest and giving your opinion, just don’t slag us off at the same time and call us idiots… U really think we wouldn’t have something to say back?

It’s a forum of course I expect others to make use of it as I do, I’m perfectly happy to be put right or have someone tell me what they think of me and my posts. (We are doing it right now lol)

I think if you look at all my posts the majority are uncontentious, quite a few are encouraging and humorous well to me anyway!

I don’t hate my job or those who like yea love it but I don’t think I’m being a troll just because I have a different opinion on it. I also think anyone coming in here asking for opinions is not asking only for rose tinted ones.

To disagree with something or someone does not make you a troll or a trouble maker, actually different opinions are healthy for any public dialogue.

I agree with you Bach and personally I haven’t found your posts to be offensive. I think Nessa and I more had some other peoples posts in mind (i did anyway)

I agree, I’ve yet to see a post from “back home” that I felt offended or annoyed by…

Yep, I’ve thought about it thoroughly, & absolutely nothing springs to mind…

Wow I am so happy I didn’t read in to these forums in depth before I booked / paid for and under took my training. Jesus I would have chucked it all in. Why are so many people so negative about the whole idea of the transport industry and learning to drive a truck for a living? Its like any job I believe there are some right ■■■■ driving jobs out there and there are some amazing driving jobs out there that pay you well and treat you well you just have to find them! I believe letting people make there own minds up about what they want to do so what if they try it and don’t like it at least they have given it a go at the end of the day its £1500 down the pan but they have tried it. This is why this industry is so desperate for drivers because everyone has such a negative view/opinion of them and it is shown as a ■■■■ job. When in fact there are a lot worse jobs out there lets face it!

See I don’t understand that, if you are going to make a career or financial decision based upon what other people tell you then why not just roll a dice to decide whether or not to do ?

Listening to other people’s opinions on anything is helpful for data and facts but their opinions are subjective. As I said before to know whether you are gonna like it you have to just do it, seems to me there is no other way to find out.

Making a decision based upon people’s opinions is pretty wreckless and or lazy.

yes I agree batch I have always loved driving and I now drive for tescos on home delivery and also love that I am now moving in the next two weeks to class 2 work delivering for next. You never know if you will like something unless you give it a go and try it! sod what anyone else thinks or believe its your life your choices!

Fair play to you mate you fancied it so you weighed it up and then went for it.
Simple huh

That post wasn’t aimed directly and solely at you, more towards the collective of posters who are incredibly negative towards the job and seem to be trying their hardest to put people off (of which I include you). Apologies for not making this clear.

As for the subject of being truthfull, it doesn’t give someone carte blanche to say what they want without considering someone else’s feelings. Quite often the guise of “I’m only telling the truth” is an individuals excuse for exercising their need to be nasty, along wth the equally appalling “it’s only banter”. It seems to me that consideration towards others is seen as a weakness.

Yep I had my car licence as soon as i turned 17 basically passed my test 2 months after my birthday, I then got a job driving for Tesco’s, you obviously don’t need any licence requirements to drive for them other then you need to be a human being :stuck_out_tongue: I discovered my love for driving and how I am a natural driver and lots of people commented how good I am at driving ect. Now class 2 is under my belt with a class 2 job starting in the next couple of weeks, class one training booked for next week eek!

Plenty of women drivers this side of the pond go for it. The job is the same as any other. It’s what you make it

Yes true but no one is saying things about dead children or the like, all some of us have said is basically we think the industry has some krap pay and conditions in it.

I’m not trying to put anyone off the game, makes no odds to me if a stranger does the job or not. I just stated my opinions.

Point is, that tool knows as Alder put the OP off from doing something, by being a knob head about it. If it was just a blunt, 1 off comment, I suppose it could be looked upon as being straight to the point. However when you looked at the rest of his comments, on other posts, you noticed that infact, he was just a bitter borderline troll, that doesn’t even have a HGV licence and liked to ■■■■ on other people’s aspirations.

I agree, getting both the pros and cons to a scenario that’s going to cost a fair amount of money is a good call, but some people are just negative for the sake of being negative.
