This job is what you make. If you run around like a headless chicken then its going to stress you out and make it zb for you! If you take your time and not give a zb so to speak then it can be the best job in the world. I get paid to see the world go past my window, meet all sorts of people in places all over the country. If I’m running late then its not my problem.
Evenin’ Seth me old pal! I’ve not trawled his old post’s mate, similar to the way I’ve not stuck a red hot poker in my eye.
It amazes me how people like him love to cause upset. I am the same as you pal, get treated great, very good wage, and a nice new Scanny Streamline to rallycross too!

It better not be one of those silly 3 pedal Opticruise nonsense!

My boss showed me brochure as mine due for replacement and it had the 3 pedal opti-Iwasneverconfused malarkey.
It was that or a Daf! Trying to convince him to pay extra for Scanny rather than suffer Daf

Don’t get one with a clutch, they are really the worst thing Scania ever did. We have at our place and I refuse to drive them.
I rest my case

Thanks for the replies. I have got the impression that opinion that the job is cr@p and that I am being an idiot for doing a degree then deciding I want to go for my dream job. There is an old saying that dreams are meant to be crushed and this has certainly proved that it is ture.
Bye
Sarah
Ho Sarah, I hope you’re still reading this forum amd haven’t given up on trucking yet.
I have two degrees, numerous other qualifications and gave up a career in teaching to drive lorries. Do I regret it? Yes, every time I swap trailers in thunderstorms, subzero temperatures and gale force winds! Aside from that I love it and I wish I’d done this years ago. Any job is what you make it. Yes there are long hours, lot’s of time on your own and peoples perceptions of lorry drivers but to ke they are positives. Long hours don’t bother me, I lile my audio books and I like challenging peoples perceptives.
As for being a female lorry driver you will get stick, not for being female, but for being a lorry driver. This isn’t a job for the sensitive and banter is part of the job description.
The job is hard, and doing it well is harder, but if you don’t try you’ll never know.
There can be a lot of negativity on this board at times, sometimes justified, but in any career you follow you will find people who don’t like their job. If you find its not for you, at 23 you have plenty of time to do something else.
Best of luck whatever you decide.
Cavey.
No Opticruise false neutral rubbish for the beaver Radar, I am a manual 12 speed master.
Why don’t you like the manual’s mate?

Never heard that saying before & I’m no spring chicken
As said earlier " chase that dream & don’t let anybody put you off " especially some ■■■■ on the interwebthingy.
Have you booked your lessons yet ?

Ah, I understand your confusion. “Ho” is actually a traditional caveman greeting, similar to “ug”, but a bit more formal.
Nothing whatsoever to do with using a phone the size of a postage stamp with fingers like Lincolnshire sausages (otherwise known as FFS, or Fat Finger Syndrome! )

Nothing wrong with manuals, I’m just confused at why they are using a clutch on an auto box. Makes no sense.

Agreed with the general consensus… DO IT.
If you have a passion, you are already a big step ahead of a lot of people. A lot of us wait a long time, or simply never find that in life…
Also, being one of the few women, when you get experience under your belt, you will stand out more and consequently more doors are likely to open.By the way, don’t think doing a degree and then wanting to drive trucks is weird - if I told you my history you’d probably fall off your chair
Have to say ‘Smithers’ advice seems good to me - if you are interested in that all round kind of thing. On a last note, at the test centre where I have been over the last couple of months there are 2 female examiners, both named Linda actually.
But, just to give you an example, the one that I have had for 2 tests has driven everything you could imagine and got every T-shirt going within the industry. And now she is an examiner who works part time as she still loves it.
And the best bit of credit I ever heard was from the owner of the training school I’ve been using (and he’s a stereotypical, spade is a spade Mackem (Sunderlander if you didn’t know) and he said, ‘What Linda doesn’t know about trucks isn’t worth knowing.’
Fair praise I’d say.
And aside from that, she was great in both my tests, even though she only passed me on oneGL,
Jon
Know both of them Linda at Newcastle test centre the 1 you had her dad was an owner she in now the top examiner there has been for about 3 years now since Ken retired
Welcome! Just do it. That’s my advice. The training company I used has recently put a few females through class 2 and 1. Also, look on 4od (on demand) for shipping wars UK. There is a female lorry driver in that and it shows you the lifestyle etc.

Only if you want made up bollox.
And I think this thread has died as far as Sarah is concerned [emoji88]
Sorry about that.

Sorry about that.
Nothing to be sorry about wasn’t getting at you , my apologies to you if it’s seems I was, just saying that shipping wars was so made up for TV it was nothing like real trucking. Ok parts might be but not much.
Shame Sarah got the reception she did but it is how it is
Hi Sara, Mainstream are deep training. Make the job your own. Truckers will help and respect you, (minus a small few)
“Shipping wars”
I haven’t laughed so much since my great aunt had the ■■■ change
Yeah Sara get into trucking and this time next year you will be a channel 5 super star. If anything reading these posts of encourage should tell you this industry is full of dreamers and losers living on fantasy island. You want to ditch university and a possible career to join this merry band
Oh dear
