Gibbs of Fraserburgh back on the road

Well speaking of Frazerbrough I used to deliver there in the 70s with Spratts from Union Fish Quay North Shields, To a fish meal plant on The Rosarty Road IIRC, I stayed there a few times as it was winter times, I stayded in a Hotel IIRC It was named The Caladonion, I may be wrong on the name, But I paid £12.50. for DBB, It was just what I needed after a long run , I visted a few bars that night and found the locals very friendly, Other nights I just cabbed it in my S36 Foden Tractor Unit, Of course it had a fold down self made bunk, The good old days in my book, Sorry to hear that Frazerbrough has changed for the worse, Regards Larry.

Is Fraserburgh known except for Gibbs Transport.

in general terms then the answer is no.

shellfish, and more recently drug crimes and foreigners committing thefts and fraud is about all that pops up.
theres nothing up there apart from the harbour and associated fish related businesses.
the only two that spring to mind are gibbs and h.b. fash.

Haven’t been there for a year or two but no worse no better than any other town I go through.
It does lay claim to the UKs largest builder and supplier of fridge trailers and temperature controlled delivery vechicles
gray-adams.com/
Also 15 pages of businesses in a town of 13000 plus ain’t bad either.

A few more i took that day

First and fourth picture have puzzled me. On every 6 x 2 unit I’ve driven (all with midlift axles), and any others I’ve observed, you steer the truck and the mid axle steers as well, just not as much as the front axle. On the photos I mentioned, the front axle is turning, but it doesn’t look like the mid axle is steering at all.
Is it just my perception or is this 6 x 2 different for some reason? Can’t think it’s a money saving exercise as the tyre wear would negate that (probably).

My initial thought was that those images have just been doctored but I’d be happy to be proved wrong…

No it’s quite right Faceofdoh, over the past 30 years manufacturers have one by one gone to unsteered mid-lifts, rather than twin-steer until now only IVECO and DAF have the middle axle steered as standard with all the others makes being an expensive option or simply not available. Whilst they cost more you do get much better tyre life with a twin-steer on the front as well as the middle and marginally better fuel too coupled with very neutral handling with a well tracked steer compared to some serious understeer with a fixed axle.
