Getting it off my Chest!

Tezza, sorry to read of your result.

However, looking at the Driving Goods Vehicle book, it does say,

Faults to Avoid…
…carrying out the maneouvre at a very slow pace.

As to whether each shunt is classed as a ‘driving fault’, I have spoken to several people who have ‘taken a shunt’ and not been marked down for it.

Essentially, it is marked under ‘control’. What I have found is that if the trailer is in the right place, and the unit is wrong-sighted, then a ‘shunt’ will not attract a penalty. I am accrediting this to an assumption that Health & Safety takes priority over bravado. Therefore, if the trailer is in the right place, but the unit is mis-aligned, then the sensible thing to do is to re-align both.

TC, perhaps you could clarify the actual wording. Does it apply to the trailer or the vehicle as a whole?

after only passing my class 1 a few weeks ago that is what i was told by my instructor and the examiner that every shunt is a minor fault. on the second test i needed two shunts and i looked back tonight at fail sheet and it had two marks on it guys

so maybe it is a regional thing i don’t know…tc over to you mate your going to be the examiner mate

LucyR:
I think this HAS to be a regional thing…I did my Class 1 in Poole, and took 2 shunts…getting me a minor for each.

Maybe I should have agreed to do it in Botley after all…passed 2nd time, though… :sunglasses:

That was a good few years ago, mind, so it could have changed since then… :bulb:

small world lucy… i took and passed both of mine at botley…

Same here
