However, looking at the Driving Goods Vehicle book, it does say,
Faults to Avoid…
…carrying out the maneouvre at a very slow pace.
As to whether each shunt is classed as a ‘driving fault’, I have spoken to several people who have ‘taken a shunt’ and not been marked down for it.
Essentially, it is marked under ‘control’. What I have found is that if the trailer is in the right place, and the unit is wrong-sighted, then a ‘shunt’ will not attract a penalty. I am accrediting this to an assumption that Health & Safety takes priority over bravado. Therefore, if the trailer is in the right place, but the unit is mis-aligned, then the sensible thing to do is to re-align both.
TC, perhaps you could clarify the actual wording. Does it apply to the trailer or the vehicle as a whole?
