ive never had a problem jump starting motors but am aware of the dangers
next time u see him online ask willie mac about this subject better still ask him if u see him face to face

ive read all the posts about the subject and kept me amused, all i can say is when i was trade plating nearly all units were flat and every spanner monkey ask me too turn on the lights now i dont no why but all i can say is it worked everytime whether it would of worked without doing this i willleave it for you lot to argue about …have fun

do drivers not carry any kit nowadays?
i thought most would carry jump leads.
surely no one would call out a mechanic/fitter because of a flat battery?
it’ll be blown bulbs and susies next. You only need one jump lead and a wheel brace, if you haven’t got a wheel brace, just run into the other truck with the donor vehicle to create a good earth
i could imagine someone welding the two together.

errrrrrm boss, i think we need a hack saw.
That wouldnt work as most trucks cabs are plastic these days
i would say 90 percent of drivers dont carry jump leads these days due to driver blowning ecus or h and s
im the only one at our that dones carry my own jump leads , the way i was taught by a scania fitter to jump ecued trucks was terminal to terminal and put all lights on BEFORE removeing the negative lead as the current from the alternator thaking over charging can blow the ecu
If a battery has a dead cell it will gas while your trying to start the engine. If you then attempt to try a jump start and connect the jump leads creating a spark at the post, the gas will likely ignite and blow the battery. The battery is really in need of replacement and jump starting should be avoided if possable, all sorts of tools for testing purposes to prevent injury.
The gas escapes out the vents which very likely will not be blocked, or the battery case if cracked. Of course there are all new battery design’s including non-vented and “gel batteries” with different requirements for charging and jump starting.

When my Merc went flat after i waited for a collection for a few days i decided to read the manual for it because the batteries are at the rear of the unit (under the trailer) and i wanted to know if there was an alternative way to access them or the terminals. Sure enough there was, there are two terminals just alongside the adblue tank specially for jump starting. No mention of headlights on in the instruction manual, and nor did i put them on. It started straight away no problem. I’m struggling to understand the logic of a slave battery blowing a CPU,ECU or whatever they are. Why is that supposed to happen?
I’ve got a similar setup on the Merc Actros I drive.
As it’s a jump start point, on a truck with an ecu, I’d expect there to be some form of ecu protection to be built into the jump start circuit.

if you read the manuals you’ll see what armagedon says is correct…oh silly me iforgot …not only are you lot trukers you’re men as well (well most of you) the manuals will be chucked as soon as the wagons done 10 kms
i object to this comment i’m male and a trucker and i use the manual every day, at slightly over 5ft its very useful for climbing into my bunk
