Bad idea 44 tonnes have damaged our roads and bridges, please dont tell me they are ok because of axle wieghts than rubbish was to con the public into thinking they were ok,they are not our roads were never designed for them. What will it do more rate cutting more expense from damaged bridges ect ect and the driver will not get his just reward it will only give pleasure to the arm out of the window brigade and hvent I got a big one.No thanks.

We put more axle weight onto the roads when we were running 32500 on 4 axles than we do through 6 axles at 44 tonne

I do think air suspension knackers the road surface though

Really? I always understood air was easier than steel on the road?

We didn’t get tramlining when we used trailer leaf springs, I think it was put down to the pummeling it got from air. I am sure there was some study done

Am just sayin… Air suspension gets called Road Friendly Suspemsion (RFS) for a reason

Oh I agree, they sell low tar ■■■■, but they still kill us :stuck_out_tongue:

Someone may be able to point me to the study I mentioned, it was blamed for the severe damage to the sub-base of our roads

The question is why would a 25 tonne six wheeler rigid pulling a 40 tonne drawbar trailer damage the roads or a bridge any more than a 25 tonner rigid being followed by a 40 tonne artic outfit would  and the French motorways seem to be able to handle more than enough Polish 40 tonne 5 axle artics without any tramlines being worn through them.

Not the study you were thinking about but it’s a study just the same :grimacing:

Exactly. The mail reading lot are happy enough to go along with the EU bs when it suits them but when it does’nt (like giving a competitive edge over big business rail freight interests) they suddenly start kicking off about the EU ‘forcing’ policies on us.If only Luxembourg could make a good start by ‘forcing’ lower road fuel taxation on the zb’s in the British government and the Swedes can ‘force’ those decent drawbar outfits through at the same time.

But it’s the opposite to what you’ve said there in that the British government did’nt give a zb about the Driver CPC or protecting us from cheap east european labour by stopping them joining the EU.But when it suits them now they’ll kick up WW3 to stop bigger trucks to help their rail freight big business mates.

the roads are not big enough for those to be over here.

Which would you prefer. Artic + Drawbar or A-Frame ?

Artic + Drawbad…I think it will drive nice and be more natural to reverse. I reckon companies would go for this as they wouldn’t have to fanny about buying a-frames to carry them…with the artic you’d only need a simple modification to fitted to your regular trailers.

some hauliers probably run at 60 ton already in the uk :exclamation:

:imp: :unamused:

The comparison is proper A Frame drawbar outfit versus mickey mouse artic with a caravan type close coupled trailer. It’s usually the ones who are too scared of the real thing who prefer the artic and trailer.Until, that is,they find out that the drawbar outfit would actually be a lot easier to use in the real world.

Would it really be easier? I’ve never driven a proper drawbar a frame doodaa so I’ve no idea what they’re like.
