A work mate used to work in Alton Hampshire as a taxi driver ,
One day he got asked by a passing motorist “ excuse me mate where’s Alton towers ? “ [emoji23][emoji23] He replied “About 200 miles north “ [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

In my home town of Malton, North Yorkshire I was once stopped by an Italian driver looking for directions. I took a look at his notes and pointed south…Malton Road, SLOUGH!

On the flip side I once spent a whole day looking for the village of Marques de Monistrol in Catalonia. I eventually discovered that was the name of the wine farm. Can’t remember the village
name now.

And another evening looking for the Rue Adumas in Venissieux, Lyons. Eventually I find the Rue A(lexandre). Dumas… Amazing what the lack of a full stop on your notes can do…

In this case theres a world of difference…

I’m from North Yorkshire which is the biggest county in the country on its own although with the smallest population!

My partner is from South Yorks which to us might as well be France lol. I go down there regularly and they’re nowt like us. Much more like Wessies (West Yorkshire folk). Which isn’t entirely surprising as most of what is now South Yorks was part of the West Riding. We never had a South Riding. West Yorkshire of flat caps and whippet rustlers, the stereotypical view of Yorkshire folk and couldn’t be further from the truth up here!

I come under the north-east rather than Yorkshire. I live nearer to Newcastle than I do to Leeds and Boro is the local football team. Notts would fit into North Yorkshire around 3 or 4 times which is probably why there isn’t a North Notts!

The ones that really make me laugh are those southrons that scuttle up to Manchester and then say they’ve been ‘up north’…hahaha thats barely out of the Midlands. Theres a whole 3rd of the country north of the M62!

I’m from East Yorkshire and only consider the other TWO thirdings as slightly beneath us, but we are all still Yorkshire where the M1 ends. Or maybe starts!

I believe we should extend North Derbyshire to encompass Sheffield etc. And extend West Lincolnshire to take in Doncaster and Thorne

A Syrian truck ended up on a 1600 mile detour in 2008,he was supposed to be in Gibraltar but was in Gibraltar Point Sgegness ,stuck in a bird watching area.
The load was luxury cars picked up from Turkey.
Not sure how the ferry or train check in staff did not realise as you have to show your cmr and declare your load prior to boarding.

Simpler to say everything north of Ouistreham is grim

The grim concrete of Le Havre?
Soot stained red brick of Calais?
