gatso camera

I used to trigger a normal gatso going in the opposite direction most nights as it was near to base, and never heard anything from it…

BUT, I also used to trigger the scamera on the a556 most nights, well over 40mph, and never heard anything from that either, but my mate triggered it once and got a ticket…

You’re a braver man than me,If I’d have triggered a camera I would be bloody wary of it next time.

In hindsight, I was stupid and lucky to still have a licence, and now don’t speed

Pimpdaddy:
Can anyone please tell me about ‘specs’ average cameras, has anybody ever been done by them? In a 50 (roadworks section) you sometimes see cars & trucks doing way more than that, how come?

I used to work as admin for the Crown Prosecution Service and was told that if you go through a SPECS camera in the first lane, then through the second one in the second lane, I couldn’t calculate your average speed. You have to stay in the same lane all the way through for it to work! It was a fault they were keen to keep quiet :smiling_imp:

I still wouldn’t like to test it though.

Was true isn’t now

I don’t fancy testing cameras hence me asking…

Was it a Truvelo? Like this – radardetectors.co.uk/truvelo … camera.htm
These take front pics but dont use a flash like the more comon Gatso.

Wrong

They have a Magenta coloured flash to avoid dazzling drivers

If it was a white flash in your face then you have no worries, because they would never type-approve a camera which could potentially cause a crash

Thats what i meant you pedantic ■■■■■■, its NOT a “flash” like a normal gatso, like it says in the link. :unamused: :unamused:

Moose, dont forget a gatso has to flash twice, thats how they calculate your speed, ie, the number of those white dashes in the road between the first picture taken and the second.

Gatso Speed Cameras

There are over 4,000 fixed Gatso speed cameras currently in use by police forces and local authorities across the UK, accounting for 90% of all fixed speed cameras. The Gatso which uses radar technology, is used for fixed speed cameras, in-car mobile units, on tripods and can even be used from moving vehicles.

. Unfortunately, this also means the cameras are not always viewable until the last second (as pictured above). The cost of installing a Gatso speed camera is approximately £20,000, but can cost as much as £40,000 if located in a rural location, as the system requires a 240v power supply.

The fixed Gatso camera has the ability to take up to 400 pictures. Cameras in that are located in busy areas or are particularly hidden, often only last a few hours before the film runs out, soon recouping the £20,000-£40,000 price tag.

Gatso speed cameras can also identify between cars/vans and HGVs separately. For example, if the speed limit was 60mph for cars/vans and 40mph for HGVs the camera will enforce the two separate limits.

It is common for fixed Gatsos to be positioned so they can be turned around to check both sides of the road - but only one direction at a time.

On the M25 in Berkshire and Surrey Gatso speed cameras have been placed in gantries across the width of the motorway with all four lanes covered simultaneously.

Points and Penalties

Being prosecuted in the UK by a Gatso speed camera can result in a minimum of 3 penalty points and a £60 fine. Fine amounts are currently under review by the government and may increase in near future.

note about

Fixed Gatso speed cameras are rear facing. This is so the cameras ‘flash’ does not blind oncoming motorists

and

Gatso speed cameras can also identify between cars/vans and HGVs separately. For example, if the speed limit was 60mph for cars/vans and 40mph for HGVs the camera will enforce the two separate limits.

I have read all the info in your post, and the link but the info is quite old is all this info relative today?

needs an act of parliament to change the law so yes it seems so
