It’s called inflation and anyone who thinks that you’ll beat that by increasing prices and rates needs to talk to someone who’s lost a haulage business because of fuel costs versus the type of rates that the market will stand. That’s less likely in North America than here though for obvious reasons.
But in this context that ‘mega corporation’ is our own government that seems to think that inflation only needs to be controlled in the context of incomes not taxes and prices so we just end up with recession.
But the relevant bit is that you did get out but luckily you’re now working in a place where they don’t overtax their road fuel unlike here. But what would happen if O Bama ever decides to tax US road fuel at the same rate as the British government do .
And yet, in one of your knobbish posts in another thread, you were actually saying that inflation was not dictated by price or by wages. You were happy that inflation hit 26.9%
Crawl back under your rock… Don’t hijack another thread with your normal crap.

IF hind sight were 20/20 you would clearly see your an ■■■. The difference well for one Canada and the US have our own oil and gas reserves the oil sands has millions of barrels of recoverable oil the Alaska delta has not even been put into production. Secondly the president can not set a tax like that, it would have to pass both houses good luck on that one. Dont get me started on the differences between North America and GB as for supply and the economy of taxation.
Not forgetting the as yet untapped fields in Southern Saskatchewan, top grade crude unlike the oil sands, and more than in Saudi Arabia.Just waiting for the price to rise before production starts.Who says we’re Prairie rednecks ?

Instead of bending over and letting customers dictate rates companies should stand firm and tell the customers what it costs to move their goods, go into any shop in the world and the price is set by the seller, yet in transport the buyer dictates the rate, it’s all back to front and you reap what you sow
This sounds like union tactics. Sticking together and doing work for a set price.
I thought you detested unions?
I’m not suggesting a cartel, each company should set its own rates, yes the surcharge should be the same, but only because the fuel prices will be the same, so therefore the surcharge should be the same
I’m not suggesting that we all join hands, but we (the transport industry) need to collectively grow some bollox, we should stop being a commodity that is bought in on price alone, we have the power to bring the country to its knees in 24hrs and yet we bend over and let people tell us what to do and how much they’re going to pay us for the privilege of being shafted, is it just me or does anyone else see that this is just wrong?

Some of the big companies are already running a cartel, and screwing the hauliers into the ground.Half the hauliers are on the verge of bankruptcy, with quite a few more running scared of ending up the same.
There needs to be a rate tariff introduced for all hauliers that changes as fuel & other costs rise & fall. I pity small hauliers many who stand firm & park lorries up whilst another numpty comes along & does the work for less.
I’m a realist though its never going to happen & soon we’ll all be living on pickled gherkins & wearing flip flops & socks because thats where its going to end up if it carries on. Blairs vision did’nt include UK hauliers, the ■■■■ sucking mother ■■■■■■.

Don’t know of any post where I’ve ever said that inflation is’nt price led. But if you can find it I’ll edit it to make sure that everyone’s clear about what I meant.
But to my knowledge I’ve always said that if unions don’t keep wages ‘in line’ with price and/or tax increases we get recession and if you don’t believe just look at what happened during the late 1970’s and 1980’s.Having read newmercman’s posts he seems to be saying exactly the same thing in the context of haulage rates versus fuel price increases. But why the double standards in the context that employed workers, who ask for wage increases,to match price and tax increases, are militant greedy zb’s,but if it’s self employed subbies or firms then they’re not .
Having said all that the problem for the government is that it’s economic ideology is all based on the mistaken idea that inflation is wage led not price led and that they can just tax their way out of a serious issue concerning our trade deficit caused by the loss of our industrial manufacturing capacity, which they’ve given away to our competitors, which is the actual cause of the problem.
That situation is’nt a lot different to the issues facing the North American economy so don’t be surprised if the US government decides to take the inflationary tax raising way out of the problem sooner or later.

You won’t be able to afford the gherkins so it’s just rice if we’re lucky and the Chinese type footwear is all we can afford if we’re supposed to compete in the global free market economy. But Thatcher is just as much to blame for that as the rest of them.
But you can include the east european lot and rail transport as being amongst those who’ll do the job if British hauliers park up which is actually exactly what the government wants and it makes no difference wether it’s Blair’s lot or this lot.
Oh look, the first pic of Carryfast!!
