French fishermen blockade Channel

May I suggest James Barr’s “A line in the Sand” to those who may be interested in why the British and French (political establishments) hate one another and will do _absolutely anything_in order to obstruct/defeat the other. Moving slightly past its main era, but the book will make clear how it really is a pity that Edward Fox missed.

He was hired to assassinate the French president!

Well I see no problem.
The Brexiteers told us we no longer needed a trade deal with the EU, so if trade links are cut with the EU we will simply trade with our new partners.
New Zealand will send us enough wine to keep us happy over Christmas won’t they?

After all they need us more than we need them, and this will prove it. Europe will be on it’s knees soon.

Trading with the EU continues to help the EU rid itself of it’s over-production of food, whilst we have the option now of sourcing cheaper from elsewhere, such as the old commonwealth…

The EU don’t have the option of suddenly flogging to some new trading partner - all the surplus food that the UK in the near future will hopefully stop buying…

They have had YEARS to encourage a “cheap as chips, pile it high and sell it cheap” culture for food… BUT instead they push a culture of “Food MUST be thrown away if it is not sold by a certain Red-tape date at full market price set by the EU”…

Are we not seeing in the shops yet - any portion of the Brexit Dividend, after all?

…Supermarkets selling stuff on on “Last Day” for 10p/£ where it is currently going straight into the skip the moment the days’ business finishes with that stuff “unsold”■■

The relationship between Shop and Customer vs Customer vs ShopS - is exactly the same.

If we don’t like Sainsburys, we can shop elsewhere. If Sainsbury’s don’t like US though? They can always make us shop elsewhere as well… That’s Lose/Lose for Sainsburys then!! :smiling_imp:

Now swap the EU for Sainsburys in that equation - and you’ll see why we eventually benefit from Brexit - the moment we actually stop trading with the EU outright, OR get them to beg us for a new trading deal - where we ONLY continue to buy their surplus produce on the cheap, rather than at Cartel-rigged high prices - which continues to this day don’t forget…

The EU have been trying to force us back into the old bum deal - which we have yet to even leave!!!

Same applies for “Freedom of movement” - when was the last time we sent a load of boat people to the EU continent into a load of minimum waged jobs there rather than over here for our in-work benefits?

The French - have permitted the nationalists to hold the departments nearest blighty - probably as a “Human Shield” where this bloody-minded FRENCH action likely originates - French National Socialism among the food gathering industries in particular… I don’t get the impression that the blockading Fisherman or the farmers throwing effluent about - were the same ones that voted Macron over LePen into power at the last election…

France have been lickcocks to Germany rather than England for our entire lives since WWII, which is the exact opposite that one might expect for the empire that sacrificed itself to pull Frankish Boeff out of the fire - not once, but twice!

“Entant Cordiale”? - My arse!

Sourcing cheaper than eastern europe? And are we really going to be shipping our meat and two veg from Australia? What about the carbon footprint?

Realpolitik in action.

I guess you’d have preferred that fleet in Axis hands?

Exocet…

Which is flying fish in French. The missile that hit HMS Sheffield during the Falklands war with the loss of 20 lives.

It’s ■■■ for tat on both sides when it comes down to history.

They should catch fishies in their waters and we should catch fishies in ours. Alas, it’ll never be that simple.

Was listening to a BBC documentry the other day about the Argentine Exocets and the team of French engineers that stayed in Argentina to help them install the exocets on the Argentine planes, all in the knowledge and full support of the French government.

I agree, the French in particular are good at being on their knees.

Spot on IMO.
They simply dislike anything that speaks the English language and have always done so.
I myself, and from what I read on the web, now go out of our way to actively not buy anything French as that is the only thing that they will take note of ( money ) as most of us know who used to cross over there in the Crack on to Macon days.

Never has been that simple - UK imports 25 tons of cod from china for example

I’ve delivered…

Frozen prawns from a chill store in Manchester to 10+ drops around Italy. Are the Italians unable to catch prawns? I admit, it’s a weeks work for a driver but in reality it’s utter madness.
