Found work after passing C+E

Cheers Jen.

I don’t think this firm has any class 1 as all they seem to have is rigid curtain side trucks. But at least it gets me in the frame with the agency as before I was an unknown quantity to them. Who knows what next… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Your right it is always good to get positive feedback. :grimacing: :grimacing:

Well what a day today. First one for this agency. It was that bad we had to sit outside our first drop for an hour and a half until they opened so that we could unload… Happy Days

The stint has gone very well as we dropped bear, wine and spirits in Lancaster, Preston, Garstang and Blackpool. Beats going to the gym.

Hope the bear didn’t drink all the wine and spirits, nothing worse than a bear alcoholic.

I’ve been talking to my neighbor about driving as he works for a local company driving class C and 360 machines. He has spent all day with the boss of this firm (sent CV into them last week). It appears that when this guy comes back from some plant course at the end of next week he wants to speak to me about a possible start. They have 8 wheel tippers, skip wagons, artic’s and low lowder trailers.

There’s always one I guess… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

FINGERS CROSSED

good luck mc, got everything crossed for you.

I had loads of these printed at Vista Print, I then spent any spare time I had dropping them off at every local firm I could find, it worked.

I have recently moved back to Manchester from Ireland as no work there, I have had class 2 for 5yrs and class 1 for just under a year.
Talk about impossible.to get a start!
Does anyone know of any companies.that take on class 1 drivers with experience? But has not 2years driving experience. Will relocate to anywhere for work. Cheers lads

Down here in the Midlands, Blue Arrow are desperate for Class 1 drivers. When I called today and said I had my C+E they suggested I come in and register straight away as DHL are one who are desperate for drivers. I reiterated I had no class 1 experience but they suggested I go for an assessment drive with them at the very least and as I had a class 2 I should know how to drive and do deliveries and the like anyway!

Which is always a step forwards

Been talking to my neighbor tonight. It appears that his boss has finally got round to thinking about calling me (not that he has done so yet). So I guess its a step closer as if he has not rung me by close of play Monday then I’m to ring him and see what he has to say about the available position of LGV Driver… :grimacing: :grimacing:

Bring on next week.

Well its been a while and one of my possible leads has come to nothing. A local company who were at first OK about taking on a new C+E driver have now said (after 4 weeks) that due to the climate they are not in a position to take me on as they don’t have enough work for the truck, :frowning: :frowning:

I guess it should of been of no surprise at all.

As yet he has not contacted me, but he will be getting a call this week to see what is going on.

On a brighter note I’ve had an interview for a company (back in my old working world) as a Construction Manager and it appears that they want me back for a second interview. I had given up on this construction work hence why passing both LGV tests and getting my CPC card.

Wife thinks that I’m barking wanting to get back in to the construction industry again until she was informed of what the salary/ package would be…

Oh what to do for the best…

As you might of seen from the above things have not gone that smoothly in finding a C+E mount. In fact its been fairly sh1…t not to put too finer point on it. To make things worse the agency’s that I’ve signed up with have not had anything for me either. So I have been left with my present employer driving 8 wheel tippers, when they have work that is, as this week I have only worked on Tuesday and will be off tomorrow

Not a happy camper.

There is only so many times that you can keep picking yourself up after a rejection if they happened to reply that is. One might say that I’m very, very miffed with the whole situation.

Not sure what the best solution is at the moment. I know tomorrow is another day.

But I feel I’m loosing the faith.

I’ve been dropped in it a few times. One particular agency is currently on my block list because they promised me HGV1 work 4 seperate times and on each of those they were almost at the point of confirming but had to wait for the employer to confirm yada yada and they cancelled after 5.30pm or way too late to do anything about it.

So I’m sticking with Class 2 for now and filling in work where I can on other things I’ve got licences for as it comes. We’ll see how it goes…

Good Luck

Chin up. I know it’s hard. I was there too. But went knocking and talking to the right people and hey presto.

You say you are on tippers on Class 2. Be grateful you have that. Some people can’t even get that much. I don’t mean that in a nasty way. Just take whatever you can and something will turn up

If any of your visits seemed semi promising, follow them up. Not to the point of harassment. But give them a gentle nudge. All it takes is an employer left in the ■■■ and he remembers you are keen. Hey presto.

Hang in there, I passed C in May and haven’t been in a truck since :frowning: but i’m still positive and hopefull. I see Commercial Motor this month are headlining with a drivers shortage story (especially after 2014) maybe there is hope for us newbies after all and maybe even better wages…if the reports are to be believed!

Tazbug

Had a missed call from the agency this morning, seems some Muppet put their phone on to silent…
If I had answered fist time I would of been offered some class C work with them for today as my normal employer had laid me off today, but I missed my chance by 5 mins as they offered it to some one else :frowning:

Hey, Ho, these things are sent to try I guess.

This afternoon the agency phoned me up to see what I’m doing next week as they have a spot of van driving for the week if I wanted it. Told them I would not know until later on today as to what I’m doing with my present employer.

A job I’ve been for an interview for has still not been decided as to if it is going to happen or not.

What is a guy to do.
