Forth bridge.

Think the driver that’s broken down in his truck on there as reported on R2 traffic is gonna be in trouble, since it’s currently shut to HGVs!!

It was only shut to high siders not Hgv,s in general

At what height do u become classed as high sided? The cab of a tractor unit alone is easily the height of a transit Luton. Is a high roofed transit panel van classed as high sided? I’ve never seen the sign that actually states a height limit

I got a bollikin years ago for driving across the Humber bridge in a 3 1/2 ton Iveco Daily box van when I got to the toll booth ’ cos of the high winds (behind me going across) or was it cos I was in an Iveco ■■

The forth road bridge website used to have a list of exceptions to high sided vehicles, these included tippers and such like but it doesn’t seem to be there anymore, it just uses the term high sided vehicles now.

I wonder if the agency will pay his fine for him,

And the rest? A van got blown around last year so he stopped on the bridge. The result was 100 hours community service, a 1 year driving ban and an extended test. The court did this on October 20th in dunfermline

You know, the ones that ignore width weight height limits and the ones that ignore the same sign at the Ouse bridge on the 62.

The ones on the Ouse Bridge no longer exist any more basically because no wagon has been blown over by the wind on it.

Had to go that night from Aberdeen to Livingston.
Boss warn me straight away that Forth Bridge is closed.
So had to go over Kincardine Bridge. Quite a loop but not much you can do.
None of matrix signs up to M90 J6 warn you about bridge closures!
Decide to stay overnight at Newbridge. All the way from Grangemouth to Newbridge just few matrix signs displayed “Forth Bridge closed for high vehs” and been flashed by every oncoming bus or truck. Well I know which bridge they are talking about and where exactly it is. I mean is it on my way or not.
My point of view. Matrix sign should of say
“A/M90 Forth Bridge closed 20 miles ahead” something like that.
Either driver is using map or sat nav he knows what road number he is on. Simples.

3 last december, and this is police view on it.
"What are the police doing about it? On occasions when the M62 Ouse Bridge will be closed to high sided vehicles we will be, where resources allow, enforcing the direction given by the matrix and roadside signs and prosecuting drivers of high sided vehicles who ignore the signs for careless driving. Priority will be given to the carriageway most affected, which will be advised by the Highways Agency who constantly monitor the wind speed on the bridge. Careless driving offenders may be offered a diversion from prosecution course or a fixed penalty of £100 with three penalty points, alternatively the could appear at court to justify their actions.

so if you saw this

Most zamknięty dla dużych pojazdów jednostronnych

would you understand it ■■?
the driver is in a foreign country and probably doesnt speak much english or understand matrix signs…

its in polish by the way if you want to use google translate.

If he can’t understand the signs in a specific language, should he really be driving in that country?

Does that go for the English speaking drivers also?
You know, the ones that ignore width weight height limits and the ones that ignore the same sign at the Ouse bridge on the 62.

Of course it does. But English speakers ignoring english written signs is a diferent matter than this thread. Not understanding a sign because it is in another language does not justify doing something wrong,s the poster was implying. If you cant read the signs, dont drive in that country is what im saying.

So everybody is limited to countries they understand the language in? I’ve driven lorries in most countries in Europe and only speak English and a bit of French. Managed from bangkok to the malaysian border in a car without even knowing the alphabet.

Should that be banned?

Did I say it should be banned completely? I said if you cant understand the language its no excuse. If you manage to get by then thats fine. But the poster I commented on was implying the driver did not understand the signs so some sort of leeway should be given. I only meant the not understanding the sign was no excuse. If you choose to drive in a foreign country then for everyones safety you need to know what your doing. What if it said “HGVs under no circumstances drive on this road” and said driver charges on anyway?

Think the unofficial line is, a vehicle that is higher than its width.

The official line from Humberside Police on the definition of a High-Sided Vehicle:

“The question that has been raised is ‘what is a high sided vehicle?’. The simple answer is any vehicle that is adversely affected by wind. This could be a high top luton van to a LGV articulated trailer.”

it might be a crazy idea, but opening the curtains and driving across might just have saved the day? :unamused:

Yeh it is a crazy idea mate, with a mega Euroliner.
If he had, his roof would have ended up in the Forth, just watch them bend in the wind like a banana when empty, and that’s with the curtains fastened.
